New unit DOA

Sadly the brand new unit in a factory sealed box bought directly from an authorized dealer was defecting out-of-the-box.
Unit repeatedly cycles through turning on, indicators coming on one at a time, "HELLO" in display, "DIGI 1," then immediately showing "PROT!," indicators going off one at a time, then starting over.
Can't review more than that since it doesn't work. :o(
I actually took the unit back and bought a Vizio. You would think that you would be able to control it with a universal remote like the one that came with my cable box, but not you can't. The sound was lousy too. the remote for my Samsung TV can't even control it. You would think the manufacturer would make all their products compatible. The Sound was as bad as the sound from the TV. Samsung needs some audio experts on their team
Pros: Inexpensive, Durable, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, bad sound, doens't wotk with universal comcast remote
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Improved TV Audio

As part of a recent TV upgrade, I bought the HW-D450 to compliment the Samsung UN55D6050 TV purchase. This 2.1 System is a nice in between compromise for getting better sound quality then just from only the TV and going full 5.1/7.1 Surround Sound and its expense and cabling demands. This Samsung system requires AC power for both Sound Bar and Sub-Woofer and one optic cable from TV source. That's it! Clean installation and great sound! Several sound algorithms are available for listening preference including Pass (Original Sound).
It fits nicely on wall or on shelf below the TV. The Sub Woofer is wireless and the connection is Optic or Analog to the main sound bar. Once pairing of sub-woofer with main unit is established (much like bluetooth) connection is always there even if you unplug it and move it elsewhere. There is a wireless docking station option available for the I-Pod as well.
This system over all sounds great with plenty of volume fullness, presence and dimension if 3D mode is enabled. Separate volume control of the Sub Woofer gives you added control of the low end you here in the room.. Tip: For audio coming from a cable box. "Make sure audio setup from the cable box has compression turned off or as "none". This interacts with the Sound Bar in a bad way if compression is on "Light" or "Heavy" from a Comcast Receiver. Not a knock on the cable company, it just is bad to have it on with this Sound Bar. If compression is on, the start of the audio stream from silence really bangs in loud and then levels out. Not a problem with compression off.
I am pleased with the over all performance of this Samsung Sound Bar System. One nice feature is Auto Power ON/Off . This senses the absence (TV Off) or presence (TV On) of digital data stream and will place main unit and Sub-Woofer in standby or turn unit on when TV is turned on presenting data on the fiber TV output. This saves having to manually turn on or off the Sound Bar unit.
However, the one negative is that I can't get my Universal Remote from the cable company to recognize any of the Samsung Codes to control the Sound Bar. This leaves using the Sound Bar remote to control Volume Levels and of course multiple remotes. I'm working on solution but may have to jump to a third source to get control under one remote. Another minor thing would be the addition of a bracket or flip out kick stand for those who are mounting main unit on a shelf below the TV. It would keep unit more stabilized and from tending to want to fall forward.
Pros: Lightweight, wireless connection to sub-woofer, sharp apperance, full 2.1 sound
Cons: ir remote code
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does not work with Samsung TV Remote
on January 15, 2012

I bought the Samsung Sound bar instead of another brand expecting to be able to control it from my Samsung TV remote. But it has been designed to require its own remote to do basic things like volume and mute -- those buttons on the Samsung TV remote don't work with the Samsung Sound bar. Very poor design decision.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, not integrated with samsung tv

Some good - more Bad

I have a year old 50" Samsung Plasma and the new soundbar will not work with that remote - how 90's tech is that!!! To many sound options. Not small enough to fit under the screen when sitting on a flat surface. Cannot see the display unless you get up and look at it. My sound starts out loud for 1 second then goes to normal, this happens whenever there is a quiet part in a show. It's almost like this was built in by a seperate contracted company - it is not compatible with the tv's they sell - or it would be plug and play.
Cons: Too big, Did not meet expectations, sepearate remote req'd.

Way to many Rock Concerts in the late 60's & 70's equated to loss of hearing...purchased the sound bar to go with my 45 inch Samsung and BAM can finally hear what is going on..Love the easy set up and the Woofer rocks...Now where did I leave my Woodstock DVD's?
