Canon SX230 HS equals Quality
on April 19, 2011

Love this camera! I was looking for a compact digital camera to take on horseback, take in my purse and something that wasn't so cumbersome when it came to portability. However, I am picky when it comes to quality in a photograph. So far, the SX230 HS is performing really well. The photos are crisp and detailed with true to life colors. The most exciting feature is all of the shooting modes. Well worth the money if you are a creative person who likes to compose professional quality images. I highly recommend this camera for a small compact that can do so much more! Reading the User's Manual is a must and goes quickly with your camera in hand. My favorite mode is the Color Accent mode.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, telephoto lens
Cons: Short battery life, only 12.1 megapixels

Best little camera

I love this little camera. It has been the best little camera I have owned. I travel a lot and this camera is perfect for sticking in a backpack. Great pictures even in low light. Great HD video. I work in the production field and a lot of people ask me about the camera. I tell everyone how much I love it and love Canon products. they have alway took great care of my needs when it comes to support. Their the best. the only thing I can say as a con about this camera is buy several extra battery. which is not really a con. because your going to like this thing so much that you will use it more than any other small camera you have owned. I would love to see a time lapse add to the small camera line. with a way to keep ac power on them. While shooting video. Again I love this little camera it goes everywhere I go. I have met several pepole that have the same camera and they all love them.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life

PowerShot a Great Camera
on June 16, 2011

I will begin with a negative so small that, by comparison, you will know what a great camera this is in every other respect. Because it is a "compact" it's a little tricky for my fumble-fingers to turn the camera on and off without having one of those fingers either on top of the auto-pop-up flash, or over the lens. But, as I say, this is a function of the camera's size and compactness, and of my clumsiness. The viewfinder shows exactly what the photo will be, right down to the colors and shadings that show up on the recorded image. I haven't used any setting other than "auto," but, just for kicks, I'm sure I will at some point. Meanwhile, I trust the camera to do the work for me. Frankly, I don't know how comparatively "good" the price is, but I sure feel I'm getting my money's worth.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Good Quality - Pricey
on February 17, 2012

Nice features, high quality images.
Model design could be better. e.g. ROUND DIAL is constantly being changed sliding in & out of case from AUTO to another setting.
PLEASE CORRECT THIS as it is very frustrating having the dial out in the open to easily being changed from normal use. Could recess dial into camera further to prevent this from occurring.
OPTICAL ZOOM: Beautiful Feature to have on ALL cameras... much more practical for use. Keep this UP.
Other than this major item, nice camera. A bit pricey.

Disappointed
on January 19, 2012

I was sorely disappointed by this camera. I have always loved Canon products, and did a lot of research before purchasing this camera. Based on the largely fantastic reviews, I had high hopes.
On the lcd screen, my pictures looked great. However, once I uploaded them to the computer, the pictures all seemed out of focus. I tried various setting and different light conditions, but couldn't solve the problem. I took identical pictures on the auto setting with this camera and with my almost seven-year old Powershot A540. The A540 produced much clearer picture, with higher resolution.
I am not sure why my experience was so different from many others. Because of this, I exchanged the camera for the same model, assuming the first was a "lemon." Unfortunately, I had the same problems with the replacement.
Pros: 14x optical zoom, Nice features/settings
Cons: Poor image quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

sx230 dust in lens
on October 14, 2012

Within a month after buying, dust was on the inside of the lenses. Of course, the photos were degraded.
Sent the camera in under warranty to be fixed. Was done in a timely manner. Received the camera back and dust was gone.
Unfortunately, the dust specs have returned.
The camera is stored in a protective case and not exposed to unusual conditions.
I have been looking at the sx 260. Has Canon fixed the 'dust inside the lens' problem?
Except for the dust spec issue, do like the camera.

Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Poor image quality, poor image quality due to dust specs inside lenses

The Best Purchase
on September 5, 2011

I bought this to replace my PowerShot A3300IS. I was amazed. SX230HS is incredibly fast and easy to use. The image quality is simply the best when you realize that you use small point'n'shoot camera. I love that 12.0 optical zoom. Wonderful low-light performance. I don't know why the others complain about the battery life, but I charged it two days ago for the first time, then I took more than 100 photos and spent around 2 hours of browsing and testing settings and functions. So .. battery life is perfect for me. Price - worth it - This price, for this quality is just worth it. This camera's performance is close to the semi-professional cameras', so it's normal to be priced a little under the price of semi-professional camera. It's heavy, so when you hold it, you will always know that you hold something. My previous A3300IS was blown away by Hurricane Irene and the lens was broken. So I hope heavier will be better. There are two things which I don't like and they are - 1. there's no viewfinder and 2. the flash is located at the top left of the body where usually your left hand finger needs to be when taking a photo. Thank you Canon!!! You're simply the best!
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
