Now I'm happy! SX230 addresses earlier model issue

After just one day, I happier with the SX230 than I ever was with the SX210. Over time that tiny zoom tab on the 210 became a real pain to find and use while keeping your eye on the screen. Another annoyance was the location of the microphones on the top of the 210 where the loudest sound captured in every video was my breathing. Then there was the image quality. I've got lots of just not quite sharp images, even in what I considered to be good lighting. All these little things just added up to not enjoying the camera much. And all of these things have been addressed with the SX230. My first shots, even on a generally overcast day, show none of the softness I noticed on the 210. This is a nice sized camera, small enough for a pocket yet easy to hold considering it doesn't have a proper grip. The pop-up flash is probably where you want to put your fingers, so a bit of retraining is needed. I won't mind that so much now that the 230 has addressed my issues with its sibling.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: popup flash in awkward location

The best compact camera out there.

This camera has it all. It is a High-end compact digital camera. The first thing I noticed on the camera was the 14x zoom and the 12 Megapixel. Also, The lowlight feature sold me, too. I recently saw a concert and bought this camera specifically for the show. It took amazing photos. I do not regret this purchase.
However, if you buy this camera, use it everyday(for the first month). If you have an important event coming up and you want to use this camera, buy it a week or more before that event. Here's why...there are so many features on this camera and it may overwhelm you. Also, check out websites on three key Camera Doctrines....Aperture Priority, Iso, and Shutter speed. If you dont understand these terms, you will not get the most out of the camera. There is an automatic setting which take wonderful photos...but Manual setting is where it's at. The more you know... the better.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, Complicated controls/menu

Great Camera

Great Camera really like using it a lot, for such a compact design, for the features it has it really packs a punch.. A few cons I have to say one about battery life have to purchase a third battery to keep on hand because they do run out some what quickly. 200 photos is about all the battery does, other cameras give me 350+ photos per charge.. Need a better camera case to hold extra batteries. As for shooting with it wish it had a strap on both sides to hold the camera better with, I've nearly dropped the camera so many times because it get uncomfortable to hold it. Last but not least the access doors for the USB/HDMI and the battery / memory they both feel a little Flimsy like the little tabs will break very quickly from regular use. Besides the those cons the camera itself actually you getting a pretty good bang for your buck as long as you don't mind the way you have to hold it...
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life, a little hard to hold, access doors flimsy

Very good For A Compact

The camera is very good within the limits of a compact camera...Has a huge almost 400mm telephoto with good low light capability. Very sharp photos for a camera in this catagory. It has a limited GPS function that i have not used because I don't really need it. It has excellent 1080 movies capability. It is fairly easy to use. It is quite small and compact, but rather heavy. The controls feel somewhat flimsy, but seem to work well. The viewing screen is large bright and very sharp, but is difficult to see in bright sunlight. A view finder would be good, but would increse price and size. The worst feature is the very short life of the battery..I carry around severl charged batteries as they don't last long.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life

Excellent point and shoot

This is an excellent compact, lightweight camera with HD video. The Cd Rom manual was very helpful in figuring out the menu and features. The only negative is that the LCD screen has a great deal of glare if the sun is directly behind you. I guess this is the same with anypoint and shoot without a viewfinder. Other than that, I love the camera. Not having to carry 2 or 3 different lenses is great. The color saturation is excellent, especially on indoor shots.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Short battery life

Exceeded my expectations

I have used this camera for 2 months and taken 400 pics with it. Most of these were of construction in a dimly lighted warehouse. It does an amazing job of pulling detail from shadow areas. Colors are true and seldom need any post processing. I like being able to use manual controls and shoot without flash. I haven't shot any movies so can't review this feature. GPS is a plus but not a deciding factor in buying this model. Wish the coordinates would display on the LCD. On the down side, battery life is short, a second battery is a must.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, gps, manual settings, metal construction
Cons: Short battery life

Bundle of joy!

I've been a Canon user for a long time and have a bunch of friends who are into Canon camera's as well. From $1200 Canon Rebel series to $200 Elph 300HS and this latest one, XS 230 HS, I own about 4 Canon's right now. Within all of them, I can tell you this one is a like a combination of all my expensive and inexpensive cameras, in one bundle of joy! I can do professional photography with it , yet pass it to the most Green user you can find that has never held a Canon and have them work it in minutes with the easy on screen help text. Doesn't fail you. The battery life is short due to the fact that the battery can't keep up with this "Vigorous Camera"! I am loving it in every way. Thanks Canon!
Pros: which one? there is one too many!
Cons: battery life!get a case that fits camera&charger
