[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased a month ago to start making fresh breads at home. Works great with wheat and corn so far. Absolutely love being able to know exactly what is going into to food I make for my family.

Almost Burned Out My KitchenAid Mixer
on August 2, 2016
Posted by: Andy S.
from Andover MN
I just received my KitchenAid grain mill in the mail today and was very excited to try it out.
First of all, the grain mill itself is a very solid product (except for the screwdriver on the back of the cleaning brush).
To try out my new grain mill, I poured about a pound of buckwheat into the hopper, turned the dial all the way to the three small dots for extra fine and started the mixer on 10.
The mixer barely turned the grain mill, but there was flour coming out, so I kept it running. Within a few minutes, the mixer came to a complete standstill. I instantly turned it off, but still had smoke coming out of it. A new product should not burn out my KitchenAid mixer!
Once I let it cool off, I turned the dial two steps away from extra-fine and tried again. Now the mixer turned the grain mill just fine and I was able to finish my pound of buckwheat.
Not sure whether I should buy an old used KitchenAid machine for my grain mill, so I don't ruin my nice one. Or buy a separate grain mill.

A happy purchase!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used my kitchen aid grain mill a handful of times. This is my first experience milling my own flour for bread baking. I am using einkorn wheat and milling on the finest setting. The resulting flour is consistent throughout and I am pleased with the texture. The aroma I get from a fresh milled loaf while baking is wonderful!
The mill is easy to clean and simple to use. It takes up very little storage space. A happy purchase for me.

I was all set to buy a single purpose mill grinder when I happened upon this attachment at a store. It work fantastic and is easy to clean. I like the fact that in could be modified to be driven manually if the need ever arose for it. Designed with basic mechanics and durable. Everything you need and nothing you dont

First time to mill wheat.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Even though I'm an engineer, I read the instructions. Instructions could be better. First, the unit comes assembled, so it must be disassembled to remove the oil from the burrs. One screw was hand tight, the second was so tight it took a large screwdriver to remove. The supplied tool is not designed to remove a tight screw. How to wash without immersing ???? Obviously the body should be immersible, the movable burr is pinned to the shaft and the pin has to be driven out to get it apart, not easy and if not taken apart water remains in the gaps. As to grinding, pretty straight forward. The discharge chute is high enough from the work surface that the catch bowl needs set on something and is easy to knock over, here is why. When the grain feed hopper is just about empty and the mixer at speed 10, I expected to run all the grain out like a meat grinder. Before all the grain is through the screw, the mixer begins to shake violently, it did this every time, Slowing the speed helped but bottom line, if you want every seed out of the mill, the screw has to be removed. It works, I expected a finer grind but don't have a comparison with other mills and stand alone mills are much more expensive. I was happy with how my first couple of loaves turned out. I'll keep the mill and play with it but frankly I expect Kitchen Aid products to be better thought out. I would recommend for the small quantity baker like me, but with some reservations.

So far frustrated!

I got this as a Christmas gift a few month ago and have used it exactly as directed including cleaning and maintenance. It randomly changes coarseness in the middle of milling which really messes up my flour consistency 😞.

Great grain mill.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am very happy with this grain mill. I use it several times a week for homemade bread. It takes just a few minutes to mill about 6 cups each time. I don't have any problem using it with my old, heavy duty Kitchen Aid mixer. I do recommend it.
