This is a great toaster - especially for a family. Love the keep warm function. It does a good job of defrosting frozen bread. Not totally happy with the toasting of crumpets as we don't seem to be able to get them crispy toasted easily, but this could be operator error. We will keep trying though.

So my wife really likes this toaster and would rate it a 5. I don't and would rate it a 3. My issue is a simple but important one. The element does not get hot enough so it take a really long time and the toast ends up being crunchy in the middle rather than soft with crunchy outsides. Good points: - I like the automatic mechanism for raising and lowering the toast. - The display is good and clear - There is a countdown until ready - The control interface is good. - It looks good
Room for improvement - The cooking is very uneven. Even though the bread I use is not particularly big slices it is still unevenly toasted. - The cooking time is too long. By the time it has finished the toast feels stale inside rather than crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. - The colours don't match other Kitchenaid products. We went with blue which looks fine but we brought a kettle at the same time and they didn't have a matching colour scheme for the toaster!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Having owned a 2 slice kitchen aid toaster for 14yrs ...it was time to finally upgrade to a new colour and a 4 slice toaster. This new toaster is amazing and has all the bells and whistles that we consider important to us...perfectly toasted bread every time and it pops up (not like our old one that had a lever to bring the bread up) only wished we had have bought one sooner.
I would recommend this to a friend!
