This toaster was bought for toasting bread AND crumpets but it is a gutless wonder in the toasting department, particularly for crumpets. If crumpets are toasted straight out of the fridge - not even the freezer - it takes 2 goes at *maximum darkness* to even begin to look toasted. Yes, this is using the correct alignment in the toaster for crumpets and "Crumpet" and "Defrost" have been selected. "Crumpet" and "Defrost" both are illuminated in the display. It's even worse if "Defrost" has not been selected - no browning at all. So having to toast twice makes toasting V E R Y S L O W and the crumpets as a result are still only *very* lightly browned on top (despite maximum darkness having been selected) and are rather dried-out as well from the double toasting! It is as if the Crumpet function is not working at all and also as if the toaster also can't cope with chilled (not frozen) crumpets! Not good!

It's pricey, it looks nice and of course, it has brand cred BUT it doesn't have a facility to lift toast up if it's a little on the short size so you have to stick something in - which I was trying to avoid? Also, it is good for short bread but longer slices from your more rustic bread doesn't fit and has to be cut or go on its side...

Our previous Breville 4 slice toaster was excellent but “died”. Member of Choice so checked the reviews. Kitchen Aid rated No 1. Had it for about 3 weeks. Excellent and lives up to the score!
