Good Printer

I've had the printer for a week. I got it to work on all three of my wireless PCs but I do not have a ap for my Android or Ipad. I understand there is one but I have not found it yet. Easy set up, works fine, quality is good. Scan to PDF works. Price was very good compared to other brands.

Product vs Documentation and Support
on February 13, 2012

When this product works it is fantastic...now the rub.
Very poor documentation requires frequent calls to the service desk. Product is affected by everything like power spikes and network interuptions and goes off the tracks frequently. Troubleshooting is very difficult and time sensitive, many times I have to revert to my cheapy HP to do faxes and scans. This product is very time consumming and support - while good - is closed on the weekends. When this dies so does my relationship with Brother.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It works reliably and provides good quality prints. The scan feature is well implemented and i have been able to keep my documents better organized.
Its like a work horse and Brother should work on making this fully compatible with Air print.

Like most everything about this machine except how you remove the finshed printed paper (slightly awkward), otherwise Great!

Big-Boy Machine With One Drawback

This is the third Brother printer I have bought, and the first one is still working without a hitch with my Mac. The first, an HL-1470N, is a b/w printer with good speed and no problems in @ 14 years. The second is a b/w MFC 8440 with which I added scanning, copying and fax capabilities. Again, good speed and no problems in @ 8 years. I used these in my solo law office to make, in some instances, voluminous filings, which were always on time. They worked for me in my small practice as well as the high-volume machines in large law offices.
This 9650 adds color and wireless scanning and printing. The WiFi scanner needs coaxing at times but eventually works with Image Capture or PDFPenPro. I could connect via USB or network cable, which might make it less fussy. Printing is very good, and the curling issue that plagues Brother printers is absent on this machine. The color seems fine to me so far, but I have no sophisticated needs and have not tried photo paper yet. The WiFi installation occurred as if by magic.
One drawback to this machine concerns envelopes. The manual says that to print an envelope or thick paper, you have to open the back of the printer, throw a couple of plastic switches, close the back and print, then reverse what you did to print ordinary copy paper. Horrified, I tried an envelope without going through all that malarkey and it got through OK. I will consider following their instructions when I print on photo paper.
My only carp is that the second paper trays that I bought for my prior machines are no longer supported, so I cannot use one tray for copy paper and the other for bond paper.

This is a great machine. It does about everything you could want, and pretty fast. However, I can't get it to copy in duplex mode, either with the autofeed or on the glass. Other than that, I love it..

A Great Office Printer

The first 3 color laser I have owned bought for a new small business. I have been blown away by this printer. The print quality and speed are first class. I has been in constant use for over 2 months now and has worked flawlessly. The wireless setup is so easy a child could do it. the fax function just works. The Duplexing (on print & copy) capability is just great and I don't know how we did without it for printing manuals and brochures. It has become indispensable to us. The only feature I haven't tried is envelope printing via the rear door so I may add to this later. It would be hard to fault this machine and if it broke I would have to buy another immediately. The included PaperPort software for scanning to pdf etc is very nice and the OCR software gets full marks. we have used it to scan text out of printed material to put into other applications and found it very accurate.
Buy one. Oh yes one other reason for choosing Brother is their Linux support which is why I purchased a previous MFC and this one

Pleased with purchase, with a few reservations

I have had the printer for just over one year and am generally happy with the purchase. I probably print 20-30 pages per day on average. Positives: Easy set up. No maintenance problems. Print quality is generally good (more on that in a moment). Remote operation is a breeze (printing and scanning.) Toner life is OK. Printer speed is just fine for my needs (home use, not business.) Negatives are not huge, but I would note these: paper curls (this is noted by many other reviewers.) Color quality is OK but not great. The plastic frame and components (such as paper and toner drawers) are thin gauge and make me nervous about their long term survival.
