I wouldn't consider myself a high volume user, probably printed around 12 pages a month if that. Recently, the printer started printing almost blank pages, with just a little color, and no black. I replaced the black ink, same thing happened. Ran the nozzle cleaning, and it fixed it, but only for a week,then started again. Got to the point where I have to run the nozzle cleaning every time I have to print. I guess what disappoints me is it didn't get much use on a monthly basis, so I expected it to last longer.Maybe it would have if it was used more so the nozzles wouldn't clog, but who knows? In the market for a new printer, looking at color lasers now, should be more reliable than inkjets.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good buy for the buck

The 840 has been a workhorse through several local elections with a tremendous amount of printing completed to create lists for canvassing neighborhoods. The only problem I had with it was the ink cartridge compatibility. I started using OEM cartridges and, in the middle of switching to the black ink cartridge, the printer failed to recognize the black replacement cartridge. This was after having replaced the color cartridges. I now have blank streaks occasionally that will not correct or repair themselves, even with the maintenance function. It's about time to replace the old workhorse, possibly with another Epson. I would just like to find one that takes the same cartridges, so I can use what is left here!

I have had excellent results and color rendition with this printer. The rubber rollers that pull the paper in must be cleaned periodically with white vinegar if you plan to use the top loader or 2-sided feature. I have used the printer regularly for 2 years. I use a B/w LaserJet for long documents not requiring color.

Easy Peasy

This printer is great to have at home in my office. It performs scans efficiently and photo print app is great to use. It is slightly slower than I would prefer but it is so good in all other areas I really should not complain at all. The wifi works great as I can print from my second computer (laptop) from anywhere in the house!

Very good,printer. Only problem is the outfield tray. Cheap and not very robust in comparison to the unit. Very poor design. But still a really good printer.

Excellent overall. Only thing wrong is that I have lost the wireless function. I have tried most everything using the epson website. Downloaded, presumably, the most current driver et al. I amusing the 840 with OS Elcapitan. The driver i had before this did do wireless. Any suggestions? Bill Allen

The printer is okay

I've used this printer for three years and for the most part, it has done fine. I have a small business and probably print 3000 sheets per year.
Lately the printer has had several errors necessitating restart. I should probably clean the machine, but will likely replace it with another Epson. I would recommend this to a small business.
