LOVE IT

I own a small business and went through a total of 6 printer/fax/copiers before I got this one now I won't trade it for anything. if it gives up I have informed my partners in the business that I am spending the money to either get it repaired or get one identical to it. it is small enough to fit in the corner of the office but holds a ream of paper so the fax part is never out of paper even if I am out.

We liked this all-in one But it is noisy when it prints compared to our old workforce 600.

Very nice all in one

We bought this after having problems with another brand of all in one. We read online the reviews on Epson and seeing all the positive remarks we had to try it. This is the first Epson anything we have owned. We are very happy with the way this prints, once we got the settings correct for everyday printing. We had a bit of a problem getting the wireless hookup, took a couple of try's to get it working but once that was done it has worked flawlessly. That was the only reason for the 4 stars and not 5. I believe the setup could have been a bit easier, maybe a bit clearer in the instructions, and maybe a toll free number to Epson support would have even helped to pump up the rating. All in all we are very happy so far, have had the printer now for one week and have made about 500 copies. We would recommend this printer.

WOW!

I can only describe the set-up and general impressions here because I just installed the unit and have not put it to great use yet...
The set-up with OS X "Lion" was easy, however, if I had not gone to the Epson support pages and found the link to the FAQ's for OS X "Lion" prior to installing, there may have been some problems using the driver install disc that came in the box with the unit. Out of the box, the unit doesn't have any WiFi utilities installed and I was unable to connect to my network wirelessly until I installed the drivers by connecting the unit to my My MacBook Pro via USB and updated as described in the "Lion" FAQ's. After the drivers were installed, the network set-up options became available on the front panel display options and I was able to manually configure the unit to my wireless network using the front panel touchscreen very easily.
I purchased this as a convenient general purpose scanner, copier and secondary to these functions, the printing functions. The WiFi/ethernet network capabilities allow me to put the machine just about anywhere, which is a good thing because I have very limited space and placement options. I'm not expecting the print quality to be as good as a higher priced dedicated color printer or my laser printer, but the initial output looks very crisp and looks to be very suitable for my needs... Scanning into the MacBook Pro was easy using the Image Capture application..
I'm very impressed with the feature/cost value of this machine and having 2-sided copy and scan is very nice for the price. The integrated dust-cover is a nice touch and the touchscreen interface/display is nice... you can tilt the display to an angle that is convenient and the memory card facilities are nice as well. When you look at the cost of this machine plus an extended warranty from your retailer (1 year mfg. warranty), it represents quite a value.

I installed the printer with wireless connection without USB cable, cable arrived late. I did not experienced any problem. Checked out print speed and quality including phote print. They came out nicely. I also like that the printer is not heavy at all, so I can move around easily (wireless). I have not tested fax yet, I will let you know after I tested.
I am very happy with the printer.

Nigh Uninstallable

Over the past 20+ years I've installed between 12 and 15 printers at my office and home. Including several different brands and models.
The Workforce 840 is without doubt the most difficult to install! I've a simple app, with just a desktop (Dell 8100) and laptop (Dell N1700), a Netgear N300 router using Win 7.
Epson's instruction "sheet" begins to fade after the "Unpacking" instructions. By the time you reach steps 7 and 8 the instructions don't get you running. In fact, several uninstalls and reinstalls later I'm still not set up to utilize the printer's features! Very poor information development (tech writing) with insinuations it "may" not be compatable with Windows 7!!!

Great buy

I currently have an Artisan 835 at home and I loved it, however, it didn't hold enough paper, so I didn't want to buy one for work. When the Workforce 840 came out with two trays and will hold a whole ream of paper, I jumped at the chance to get it. We bought two for our office, both work great. Quality is fantastic, custom setting are a great asset and duplex printing is invaluable in cost savings. We print in draft with duplex and save on paper and toner, our printer cartridges last longer than our previous laser printer and cost less as well. Great buy!
