Excellent device,fast printer,no multipurpose tray

"Excellent device, fast printing, easy to use, needs multi-purpose tray, A++"
I have nothing but glowing reviews for this all in one device. It is very fast in printing for an ink-jet. I have tested it out on almost every level and only had to read the manual once to enable receiving a fax (have to push a button to activate). I recently got to test printing from my HTC Sensation android smart phone and it worked first try.
It connects well using USB, Ethernet or Wireless networking. I even managed to successfully connect using 2 methods (USB and Ethernet) on the same main computer, something that is not encouraged and may see warning message that I ignore when printing on the network side. :) However, printing from another networked computer (laptop) works fine on the network side
as the main computer is mainly connected using USB.
Of course, I got this printer for the duplexing capability. It is fast printing, scanning, copying duplex as well. I have not tried duplex or color faxing, but who needs to?
The only thing I wish this printer/scanner/copier/fax would have is a multi-purpose tray for feeding envelopes.
Great product all around in the end. Get one before they go out of stock.

Ready To Sell My Epson Printer
on May 8, 2012

I am so excited. I have a home business and my printer is very important. I did not want to sell my printer because it has been the most user friendly, everything I need for a home-based business, cost effective printer. I was ready to sell my Epson printer because I was having the same "driver difficulty" that caused me to get rid the previous printer that I had from another manufacturer, until Jane, one of the Epson customer service representatives very patiently and kindly helped to resolve my issue. And there was not charge!!! I couldn't believe it! Ten minutes into the phone call I expected her to say something like "OK ma'am we can completely resolve this issue for only $69.00 which is a savings of.........". You all know the rest. Now I can continue to enjoy all of the wonderful benefits that caused me to change to an Epson printer in the first place. I actually compared the price of making copies versus paying for copies somewhere else and my printer truly saves me money. Super user friendly, saves money, saves time, great customer service and technical support, not much more can a home-based business ask for. Way to go Epson!

Short life of Work Force 840

This printer worked very well until it died the other day when it was 1.5 years old. We switched from H-P printers, due to frequent service problems with them. It seems there is not a printer out there made to last like they used to a decade or more ago.

Automatic Full Duplex Scanning
on February 1, 2011

I set up my Epson WorkForce 840 All-in-One Printer as instructed. The test print worked first time. I scanned a copy of the test page into Word and was able to resize type and edit on the first try. Then I printed one of my photos and then made a color copy of the photo I had just printed. Both print and copy were made on plain white 8.5x11 copy paper. I am glad I marked the original because I would not have been able to pick it otherwise. The photo was a day time photo with large shadow areas and details of low contrast. The copy was made directly from the printer control pad and I made no adjustments for image quality yet the copy, like the print, was amazing. I then loaded 15 double sided pages of a repair manual and scanned it into a PDF file to load on my phone. I used the built in wireless feature to access the 840 from a computer in another room where I wasn't able to monitor the process. Software, wireless, and printer did it on the first try. I don't kow about the fax part since I seldom use that feature. I am pleased with the quality, the performance and the price. I would gladly recommend to a friend.

Epson WorkForce 840 All-in-One Printer

I can't comment about longevity as this printer is only a few days old. That's the only reason I gave 4 stars. This printer is quiet, not clunky and seems well made. Everything I have tried has worked without any problems. Being able to load a feed tray and have it scan both sides of documents is such a time saver. I'm elated. Printing/copying was quiet and also able to do both sides. Color printing of photo was clear. I was hoping color printing would have been a little faster but that is not an issue with me. I use the wireless network setting and it connects without any problems at power up. I printed a photo from my camera's memory card. Controlling print options from both my Mac and PC works great. My only concern is all the different options for printing and paper types which I will learn in time. Compared to printers I have had in the past and some that I have seen recently, I think I made a very good decision with the Epson.

Epson Workforce 840 All-in-One

Here is my initial review; I would recommend using the "Start Here" instructions at a minimum. I had the printer in the box in my office for about a week before deciding I had enough time to hopefully get through the installation. I removed my old printer, opened the box for the new Epson, did a quick once over to see that everything was there and put it on the desk. Removed all the protective materials, and then read a special "Caution" note about not to remove the plastic strip which is part of the Automatic Document Feeder...after a few minutes of trying find what I did with what I thought was the plastic strip I realized the strip I removed was only a protective piece of paper and not the plastic strip they were referring to...I would have preferred they didn't even have this note as it only confused me (not that that is difficult to do :-). Turned on the printer, selected the appropriate settings (very intuitive/easy), installed the Ink cartridges (again, simple), loaded paper in both trays (simple, but make sure you set the edge guides correctly - I didn't do this correctly at first, it printed the first page of my document, then failed on the second saying was out of paper or jammed - turned out it was just the edge guide (the front one, not the sides) not being set to the Letter size paper. Connected the printer to my wireless network without using a USB cable (just had to remember my Network name and Password...once I had this info the process was really intuitive and simple). I went to my daughters laptop and looked on her wireless connection to see the name I had given my wireless network and the password was set to my home phone number, including area code with no spaces...took me a couple of tries before I realized it wanted the complete phone number with no spaces, but then it proceeded effeciently. I then installed the software, which I was kind of surprised it took nearly 20 minutes in all to install each of the phased installations. Success, ran a few tests and all seems to be working just fine. Also tested the copier and it functioned perfectly. The two-sided copying was a little more challenging than I expected...I finally got it to work best by loading the document into the feeder, then makng sure I selected the correct two-sided print setting...there are four selections for two-side printing, but only three show up on the initial menu...the one I needed was the fourth, but I had to page forward on the screen in order to see it...at first I didn't even know it was there so I was selecting the wrong one and was getting frustrated when it would not complete the two-sided copy. Photo Printing; see the small manual for how to load the 4 x 6 photo paper into tray one...it's critical to the functionality...at first I just tried to put the paper in there how I thought it should be, but it failed. After adjusting the paper in the tray I printed one picture and the color/quality was good, it took about 80 seconds to print a 4 x 6 (which I thought was a little slow, but as long as the picture was good the time was fine. The photo software is intuitive, but I need some more time with it to check the capabilities, along with some of the other software. The only thing remaining to test is the fax...I look forward to getting this to work, and suspect it will not be too difficult.
hopefully some of my experiences will help others to enjoy this well designed printer !!!

Disappointed

I like the new printer for many reasons: quiet, fast, easy to set up. If I had known the scanner only creates documents in a jpeg format I would have bought something else. This does come with software Abbyy FineReader w/screenshot reader, but if you want a document scanned to your PC and immediately usable-forget it. I will pass this along in a contact E-Mail to the company.

Epson 840 Difficult Install Win 7
on February 27, 2011

Felt this was a very difficult printer to install with Windows 7 64 bit. I have 4 computers that I needed to connect to this printer. Two are Windows 7 64 bit, 1 is Vista, 1 is XP. The Vista machine was actually the easiest as the provided disk worked smoothly. I tried the disk on one of the Windows 7 machines and after it failed to complete the install twice I ended up on the Epson product website and had to download the 64 bit drivers, which took 30 minutes on a dsl connection (105MB). The XP machine was a bit strange in that it acted like it installed from the disk and then again through it's own Add a Printer menu. I haven't attempted the 2nd Win7 machine yet - too much time wasted for one day. Seriously - seems like every PC sold now has the 64 bit version, let's load the right drivers on the install disks and not make it harder on the consumer.
So far the machine itself is fast and producing good quality prints. Giving it a 3 just because I think the average user will be frustrated by the install process.
