We bought this for our new house, and we love it so far. The clear ice is perfect! We did have it professionally installed by a plumber, and it has worked beautifully. Very happy with this purchase, and highly recommend this ice maker.
This is my second Kitchenaid ice maker and it performs much better and with fewer problems than the now discontinued model it replaces. First of all, I like the size of the ice it makes. The cubes (actually not quite cubes, more like small, half cubes) are perfect for cooling drinks quickly. They are small but not so small as to seem like the slushy, opaque pellets made by a competitor. They are smaller than the large round ones made by the other competitor I looked at and which I rejected because offered less cooling surface and would not work well in a cocktail shaker and be hard on a blender.
We bought this about 4 months ago when we bought and remodeled a 2nd home in Florida. We have the same ice maker in our other house and it has run without a hitch for 5 years now, with me doing the cleaning easily. This one has been perfect as well. Ice is clear, it senses when the ice maker is full and stops making ice as needed. The integrated pump is convenient, and a necessary thing in the Florida house, but a bit loud. (Our first house has a direct drain which is better if you are building from scratch.) But the noise is intermittent, and I take it as a reassurance all is running well. We installed this under the kitchen counter next to the sink and it looks great and functions as a kitchen towel holder too. (I called Kitchenaid with questions of how to handle when we are gone from the house for a few weeks, and the woman I talked with was patient and helpful. Since we are there at least once a month, the ice maker is fine just left on, since it senses when the ice maker is full and stops making ice.)
