I bought this as a replacement of similar model that was breaking down frequently and had it installed 1/15. It broke down 10 months later (fortunately under warranty). It broke down again this week and condenser already needs replacement. I can see the writing on the wall and replace it with a more reliable unit. I don't recommend this ice maker to anyone
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The first ice maker had constant repairs from the time we installed it. They finally replaced it and now we are going through the same issues with the second ice maker.
We built a new home and installed all Kitchen Aid appliances. We moved in to the home in October and already the ice maker has broken twice. We called the local dealer where all of the appliances were purchased and was told that even though the appliances are only 2 1/2 MONTHS old, it has to be repaired 3 times before Kitchen Aid will CONSIDER swapping the appliance out with a new one. WOW I hope I have better luck with the rest of my appliances!
After having a Scotsman as well as a U Line ice maker I'm finally satisfied with this machine. They both had SO Many repairs.... Now it is working like a champ.
Best appliance purchase! My expression is "Once you run out of ICE the party is over, you can never have too much ice!" Perfect ice for drinks and cocktails.
We bought this a few months ago to replace a GE Monogram ice maker that only lasted 5yrs, repairs to it were going to be more than what we paid for it. Choose the Kitchenaid for the water filter feature. It has been working great. I love the ice it makes, it makes every drink taste better. We have a large family and entertain a lot so it keeps up with our demand. We're hoping it lasts at least 10 years.
This is my second Kitchenaid icemaker; unfortunately the first only lasted about 7 years. The earlier model was going to cost almost as much as buying a new one and it was the second time in less than a year that it required expensive repairs. The new features that I love about this model is that is has a light inside and they have positioned the scoop and its bracket in a better place so that it doesn't get knocked down and hidden in the ice. I love the size and shape of the cubes (I have another icemaker in my summer home and the cubes are bigger and cylinder shaped; can't remember the make of that one but I think the cubes are too big). I'm hoping this Kitchenaid holds up better than the first.
