Bad can opener! Doesn't open cans at all

We recieved this can opener for Christmas and had to return the first one for a replacement, now that replacement is still no better. It is very difficult to open a can, if you can get it to work at all. Very difficult to pierce the top of the can so operation will began. We have other Black and Decker kitchen appliances that work fine, including an eariler model of the Spacemaker Can Open that we loved it, but this one is a piece of JUNK!

It's a spacemaker, it opens cans and it's black.

That's about all I can say positive. It is made to mount on a cabinet with no larger than a 1/2" front board, ours is 3/4 so I had to make it work by mounting it to a piece of wood and then using the old holes from the previous B&D spcemaker which we loved but was white and then lower it far enough to get the handle of to clean it We have fairly good cabinets but can't imagine how cheap one's would be with anything less. It's noisy, and the engineer who designed the knife sharpener must have never tried it, you can only get the end of a longer knife in it. Haven't tried the bag opener yet, but really don't care about that. The old one we had was really nice and worked well but like I said we built a new house and had to use this one until we finally found a black one and the wait wasn't worth it, should have bought a can of black paint. Thought when you changed things it was to improve it?

Hard to mount on cabinets with trim
on March 8, 2011

The front mounting holes place the mounting screws in the joint between the cabinet bottom and the trim piece. If the unit is moved back so screws can go through the cabinet bottom then the lever cannot be raised to remove the cutter. This is poor design, Unit will probably work fine if your cabinets do not have trim pieces. Otherwise expect to go through hoops to mount it so that everything works. I had to put a small board on top of it and then use furring strips so that it could clear the trim piece and the lever on the cutter could be raised to the position that allows cutter removal.

TOO HARD TO FIT TO YOUR CABINETS
on September 13, 2011

THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT INSTALL WELL WITH ALL CABINETS.
MY CABINETS ARE CUSTOM CABINETS. THE MOLDING IS 3/4'' THICK AND HAVE A 1 1/2'' OVERHANG MOLDING DROP
ALSO THE DIRECTIONS DO NOT REALLY HAVE ENOUGH INSTRUCTIONS AND GRAPHIC. YEARS AGO I HAD A SUMBEAM UNDERCOUNTER AND HAD NO TROUBLE INSTALLING IT.

This is my third B&D SpaceMaker

My third: This can is so awkward to use that I am considering to uninstall it. It doesn't turn the can, it's hard to get the can started. The only thing it seems to do is rip off the label of the can, contaminate the cans product, and render the can so damaged that even a old fashion hand can opener won't open it. I must say that every time I purchased a new SpaceMaker the bolt hole pattern changed leaving my cabinet bottom looking a little Swiss cheese. I think I am looking for a new one even if it cost twice as much! SORRY B&D but you need to know

Poor design?
on August 19, 2017

This unit just arrived in the mail and I haven't installed it yet. This is due to the fact that the cover does not open far enough for a standard can to fit under the blade. Is it defective or am I missing something about the cover/hinges?

Thank you for offering your feedback regarding your Black+Decker CO100B. I’m happy to advise that your can opener’s door can be pushed all the way underneath the unit. Continue to apply pressure downward, to get the door to swivel all the way out of your way. If you need any further assistance with your can opener, please reply to the email I’ve sent you from youropinionmatters@spectrumbrands.com so I can address your concerns.

Poor Design

Very poor design. Impossible to mount on a cabinet with 3/4 overhang without drilling mounting holes in the cabinet frame. Also, seems to be cheaply made. Im sure this will not last very long. Took me an hour to figure out how to mount this bugger so it would work. As usual older model B&D's were much more substancial. Luckily I kept all the mounting hdwr from the old one or I wouldnt have been able to get it installed at all. Would not recomment this model to anyone. Takes some McGiver skills to get it installed. Might work fine on a flush mount cabinet with no overhang. Even so if you dont get it right you wont be able to remove the blade for cleaning. Im sure this review will never be posted. Funny there are no posts here, guess they are all negative.

Not for all cans

I'm returning this item because I have no use for it. It has a cover that hangs down and you cannot put a large can to open under due to the cover on the bottom. How are you suppose to open a can when it don't fit? The person that invented this style must not open large cans. You should express that. I have no use for it. I have a lot of LARGE cans to open. Now what?
