Poor Poor Quality

In one of the reviews I read B&D reply was "...Our goal is to provide products of only the highest quality...". This waffle maker missed the mark in so many ways. I had this same waffle maker made by GE (before B&D took over) for at least 35 yrs. The heating element has started to fail. Thinking the B&D would be the same and the GE I bought it. What a mistake. There is nothing about the B&D that equals the GE. The waffle maker is made with lighter/thinner material, the plates are lighter and don't fit well and the heating element doesn't cook as well. The waffles are darker on one side that the other. They come out pale and wimpy unlike from the GE that make them golden brown and crispy. Where's the quality?? You need to go back to the GE way of building or do away with this waffle maker, which would be a shame because this is one of the few waffle makers that isn't a belgian waffle maker. Don't buy this waffle maker until they rebuild it.

Great idea, bad plates

This product initially worked great. It’s nice to have one product that can make waffles and Panini’s. However, the nonstick surface of the plates has chipped off, and there is now a layer of grime that cannot be cleaned off. The clips that hold the plates in place are also very weak, but this is manageable. I just can’t use the product anymore because of the plates.

Central control box sits too high in the unit

The bottom plate ejects itself from the unit. This is a design flaw.
I looked the unit over to see if the unit could be lowered somehow but the metal bracket is already hitting on the wiring underneath.
I will be returning it and wont purchase this or any other black n decker product going forward.

Had the same type and brand for 14 years, my mother gad one for about 10 years. I recently purchased another one. It a piece of junk. The plates keep popping off, causing uneven cooking. The plates don’t line up. I will not be buying any more of your products you gave list me as a customer.

I was gifted my waffle maker 3-1 and love it. So after 4 years of use the plates have lasted without the chipping some folks have experienced. I wonder if it is because I wipe it with oil before and after use. Just a thought. The down side is cleaning the small nooks under the heating element after a overflow while cooking. I’ve even warmed up cold waffles on top while new ones cooked.

Dissapointed

I was given this waffle maker as a gift and it woeked great for about 2 or 3 months. We have never used as anything other than a waffle maker. It will only brown one side as it cooks and then once it is doen you have to flip it over to brown the other side. I like this waffle maker because of the small squares, we do not like Belgian waffle size we like them smaller.

Poor quality plates

I purchased the G48TD to replace my 30 year old G48TD waffle maker. They appeared to be almost identical. The plates on the new unit were not as heavy, were thinner and fit poorly. The waffles do not cook evenly. They are really dark in the center and really light around the edges. This is not the kind of quality that I've come to expect from Black & Decker. I'm very disappointed.
