Great for film scanning, too!

I bought this scanner because it could do transparencies and negatives. Some of my 1970's negatives were 120 CPS color film, and were hard to keep flat. I washed them again with Photo-Flo and used the wet-mount film holder (yes, this scanner does that, too!). The results were incredible - far better than I ever got in the darkroom with my Beseler enlarger. I've always had decent scanners, but this jewel keeps them on the storage shelf. I heartily recommend it to the serious photographers out there.

Epson Perfection V750-M Pro

I bought this device primarily to convert thousands of 35mm slides to digital images. At the time I was looking for a scanning solution (late 2010), this unit appeared to be the best value and quality at a reasonable price point. I have probably imaged a few hundred slides, at this point, and the results have been good. I am using the SilverFast software which took some experimentation before I figured out the proper settings (e.g., 2400 dpi). I do not use SF for touch-up preferring the tools (e.g., spot healer) in PhotoShop Elements. Occasionally, I find that some images are just not as sharp as I would like which, I gather from other reviews, has to do with the distance of the film from the glass which is not adjustable. The scanner is easy to use and is getting the job done -- 12 slides at a time. Overall, I am pleased with the results. I considered sending the slides to an outside firm and it would have cost about the same as the scanner, but this way I have full control over each image, including cropping, naming, and library placement.

Perfection for non professionals

I use the 750 for film scanning. It's fast because of the abilities of batch scanning. The result is good, but far from excellent. I really want it to have a focus-system, and I think it generates a little to much noise. But overall, and especially considering the fair price, it's a bargain. For scanning prints it's very good quality. I've tested the "real" resolution on film, and it's more like 2400dpi than 6400dpi. Anyway it's more than enough for my use. I use Silverfast scanning software. And I use anti newton ring glass combined with the original filmholders, that I bought from betterscanning.

A supurb productivity scanner

Have used the V750 Pro in scanning over 2500 slides. Teamed with SilverFast Ai Studio 8 I can now scan, correct and enhance 12 slides and automatically send to Adobe Lightroom for any finish touches. This has cut the time to process 36 slides in half for me. I was using an Epson V600 before.
One caveat, the included SilverFast Ai 6 does not run under Windows 8. This made it so I had to upgrade to Ai studio 8.
I would buy this scanner at any time and highly recommend it to anyone needing a scanning productivity booster.

I was pleased to take the scanner out of the box, quickly assemble it according instructions (including the download of OS 10.6 drivers and updates)... and moments later be scanning batches of photos in professional mode; with excellent results. So very much faster and easier than any other scanners I've experienced. The task of catching up with digitizing old photos in a way that is both easy to access and use in presentations and publications no longer feels insurmountable!

Emphasis on "Pro"

First, the cons: Read the specs on this machine before considering it. This is NOT a cheap home-grade scanner. It takes up a lot of space, and to do the job properly you need some horsepower in your computer.
Now for the pros: My scanner is has at least 8 hard years under it and it is still going strong.I have used this to scan everything from color slides (12 at a time) and negatives to LP album covers, and even sheet music. It can scan legal size documents, and by easily unhinging the top, even over thick items such as books. It does the job quite well, indeed.
You will need some additional photo editing programs to take advantage of the scanner.
Most people would find this scanner an overkill, but for me it is worth it all.

Good Hardware, Software Needs Improvement
on July 28, 2008

Hardware does a great job - quality reproduction, good color fidelity. Software does well for straight forward copying with Home mode. Professional mode has some sofware glitches - mostly annoyances - that need to be fixed, since the software does not work exactly as shown.
When using the 35mm slide tray, the pictures must be loaded in order from top right to bottom, right to left, but the screen display shows right to left in a natural reading order. This dumb software code greatly distracts from using this for 35mm slide conversion in the professional mode (along with other things that need fixing in the Professional Mode). The user manual could be much better. In short, very good scanner, mediocre hardware at best. Phone support was very good.
