Great All-Around Smartphone
on November 30, 2012
Posted by: PlayStationphone
I've had this for about 3-1/2 months now, and still very pleased with the features and performance. I chose this model for the good price, slide out keyboard, and good size.
This smartphone replaced a Blackberry Torch, and I am much happier with this for many reasons: navigation thru phone features is much more intuitive, there are fewer menu layers to get to the commands I use, the keyboard is larger, and the display is easier to read.
I wish the keyboard buttons were raised up just a bit to help give me some feedback that my finger is directly over a key before I push down on it, because sometimes I either miss and hit a wrong key, or miss any key at all...but I'm getting used to it.
The camera works surprisingly well in good light (daytime, outdoors), and the built-in flash helps when indoors as long as you are shooting a close, still subject.
Pros: big keyboard, bright display, recharges quickly
Cons: keyboard buttons are flush with surrounding frame, vibrate ring is weak at highest setting

Recommend the phone, yes. Recommend the ICS update.. NO!

I loved this phone when it worked, although it always did have a few problems. It would constantly freeze and would randomly end calls and turn off, and such. I then went to do the ICS update, and it froze 2 laptops i was trying to do it on, and took me over 10 hours just to attempt, and all I had in the end was a phone that was so messed up as far as software that I couldn't even use it and had to go to the AT&T store the next day to get a new phone. I am VERY upset with Samsung. I switched to the HTC One X, and I am very happy with it. Although the Captivate Glide has a nice slide out keyboard, it isn't worth it for just that. I am sorry, but I will not have a phone that doesn't do all that it is supposed to without an update, and an update that messes up software on three devices. Not worth it what so ever. The phone is currently laying in my desk drawer, still frozen on a software malfunction screen, and there is nothing I can do to turn it off.
Pros: camera, slide out keyboard
Cons: battery, update, freezes constantly, ends calls randomly, closes apps constantly, software bugs and malfunctions
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

WORTH THE WAIT!

I have the old unlimited data plan... contract ended in June and I had considered and Atrix, but I am a physical keyboard addict. I wanted a full screen, slider QWERTY (four rows of keys!), Droid OS, and 4G since I have the unltd data plan. This phone has it all. I picked it up Dec 12th. I went out on a limb and purchased it after reading online reviews at a dozen or so sites such as Cnet, Phonearena etc. since at the time there was only one review on this site. In 2 weeks time there are now 28 or so positive reviews =)
This is my first Droid... I'm loving it. Great browser and incredible screen. Cam has a flash as well and 8mp w/ 720p video. Some reviews on other sites panned the flat keys, but I adjusted quickly. Lotsa room to use fingertips on them and I even adjusted to the onscreen keyboard, but I prefer the slider. The 1/8th headphone jack and sliding charger cover are nice as well.
The back cover snaps on and off which is a bit awkward, but really... how many times is it necessary to remove it?
Even a worker who has had both an iPhone and now has an Atrix is totally impressed with my new phone. I am glad I waited to get a phone with everything I wanted. For me this phone is the total package and worth the wait.
Pros: camera/video quality, speaker, battery life, ease of use, good for texting
Cons: back cover

This phone is a very big step up from the original captivate which I had. This phone has a flash and a very large keyboard which allows you to text and e-mail faster . This phone is also super loud ! It's great for getting peoples attention and playing music. I would buy this phone one million times if i could.
Pros: tools, Wi-Fi capable, good for texting, camera/video quality, speaker, durable

The I love the display, ease of use and design of this phone. The camera is AMAZING… However, I have only had this for 6 weeks and its now messing up on me! All of a sudden, the ability to calibrate the screen just dissapeared from my phone. Also, I always now have to use the slide out keyboard. A lot of the letters on the touch screen will not work. I can use the phone, but I have to roughly slide my finger to get it to slide for anything. I also have to tap it roughly to do anything. Unless ATT can fix this to where I have the recalibration back on it, I don't know what I can do. My brother put me on his plan and got me this phone for christmas. So I am locked to this phone for 2 years. I hope ATT can do something, as I am very upset that my christmas gift from my hardworking brother is messed up :-(
Pros: menus, camera/video quality, speaker, Wi-Fi capable, durable, ease of use, good for texting, design, features
Cons: battery life, software bugs

This has got to be the best phone I have ever had since I had a Samsung Impression which I absolutely loved. I love this one more I think. I've had mine for going on 5 months and the only beef I have with it is that the battery drains to quickly. I think the camera takes better pictures than my higher pixel camera does.
Pros: menus, Wi-Fi capable, ease of use, good for texting, camera/video quality, durable
Cons: battery life, volume level

Like this phone very much, but...

I really like this phone. I wanted a physical keyboard and my choices were limited. I liked the fact that I could use the keyboard or the touch screen. Two things are keeping me from LOVING this phone. One is NO SPELL CHECK when using the physical keyboard, only when using the onscreen keyboard. Major oversight to me. Secondly, the back cover is EXTREMELY flimsy and cheap feeling. I've had my phone for 3 months, and the back cover is already splitting between the headphone jack and camera. Since this is my first Samsung phone (I usually get HTC), I don't know if all the Samsung models' back cover is this flimsy or what. They need to upgrade to better /thicker back cover.
Pros: camera/video quality, speaker, Wi-Fi capable, ease of use, good for texting

Finally!!!

I've been waiting for AT&T to offer a smart phone with a full sliding keyboard and they finally did it! It's got all the bells & whistles you need. Battery needs to be charged @ EOD but what smartphone doesn't. Better than an iPhone IMHO esp w/ larger screen. Definitely get the case to the phone, it will be easier to slide open. Met my high expectations!!!
Pros: menus, Wi-Fi capable, ease of use, good for texting
Cons: battery life
