I would say that the whole waterproof thing is sometimes true I have gone through 6 Armor cases and now my phone has water damage and i have to buy a new one. The Armor case is a nice build but it is to bulky for my true liking and does not always hold up for a ten foot drop.
I purchased this otter box because I am a firefighter and ride a motorcycle. It is good for protection no doubt. The problem is, It is hard to hear a phone conversation and when I talk I am told i cut out alot. When I take my I-phone 5 out of it I am told I am heard fine and I have no problem hearing.
Love this case. I thought Otterbox was getting stagnant. Defender case is same size but old, but waterproof, etc. Buttons don't get loose or toggle easy, firm. Metal hinges, just a tough case. Work in a plant and is a must.
After using the iphone 5 Armor for several months it was starting to show some wear. As a result of constant use the o-ring on the headphone port did not appear to be sealing as well as when first purchased (I have used it underwater on a couple occasions and did not want to risk destroying my phone.) I contacted customer service to acquire about a replacement o-ring. Through a couple short emails I was routed to case replacement. The replacement case was shipped promptly and dealing with customer service was great.
I knocked a star off of the total only due to flaws in material selection for the rubber edge around the front and sides of the case. Within a short period of time this edge started to wear. I do not think this affected performance in any way, just appearance.
For those of us that have had to work in or around water, this case is a good choice for protecting your expensive device.
Pros: customer service, does what they claim it will do
Cons: started to wear prematurely
I would recommend this to a friend!

Strong case, weak design

This is a nice, strong case. I haven't dropped it in the toilet yet, so I can't comment on the watertightness, but I have dropped it from a pretty high scaffolding onto the pavement with no damage to my phone and only light scuffing on the case. The case actually makes many phone switches more easily accessible (mainly, the mute/rotation lock switch), which I appreciate, as well as the ease of opening the case with the tight but simple latches, however...
Overall this case is more of a hassle than it's worth. Primarily, none of the Apple Adapters will work with the power port and this case. The Lightning to USB works, but for the Lightning to 30-pin cable adapter, the bulk of the Lightning end is too big for this cases opening. This is especially annoying if you've got a SatNav in your car which already has a 30-pin wired to it, making it impossible to charge while driving with this case. The other main annoyance is call quality is much worse with this case. Muffled and distorted, it's worth the time to remove the phone from the case before making any calls (luckily, this is an easy task). The headphone opening is also limiting to higher end headphones (I use Grado, so this might be circumstantial, but I know my headphones will never work with this case). Lastly (and pretty minor), the port covers are quite tight, which is clearly a necessity with a waterproof case, but my wife has trouble opening them to plug it in.
For what it's worth, unless you're using this to take selfies while waterskiing, the Defender is a much more refined option. Maybe after a couple generations, they'll get the Armor case right, but that time has not yet come.
Pros: Durable
Cons: poor design, incompatible with apple cable adapters
The case looked very durable but was too bulky. Could not switch from vibrate to sound using the button on the side because the case did not fit the switch just right. Was told by callers that my voice sounded far away or muffled. Not too many style choices for female customers.
