I like the durability first of all. An IPhone could not compare. This phone doesn't have a forward (screen side) camera but I'm not to much of a selfie guy so I'm not heart broken. The camera that is on it is great. The down side is there is no zoom function. The only real problems I have is the available apps, the Windows store is on the weak side, I've resorted back to reading books in my past time. Otherwise things are going well, I can't wait to upgrade and see what more nokia has to offer.
Pros: Personal, college

I didn't pay a lot of cash for my Nokia Lumia 520. And the only real disadvantage is no forward camera, not really a big deal. And for those who say that they hate it because it doesn't work properly.... Windows phones work properly and fun circles around iPhone and Android phones when used properly,That is let it connect and let Cortona work for you .once I got over not wanting to allow the connection to the web I learned that I didn't use any more data than I would have used other wise it allows for fast downloads and access to your favorite sites. Remember Your PC needs to have access to the web to work properly and the 520 is not any different it's got 8gigs of memory and it will take a 64gig micro SD card which is more than most high end" smart phones'" offer so stop being paranoid about letting it connect and do it's thing it's thing is to work for you

Coming from an Android HTC, (which I loved), this phone is much easier to use. The tiles are a great way to check things, does everything I need and is never glitchy - even with only 512mb Ram. Would love to see a premium phone of this size with all the power features and a bigger battery.
Pros: Personal

Excellent phone call quality, no tethering

The phone call quality on this is awesome - perhaps the best compliment came from a Radio Australia interviewer. I'm in New Zealand and they asked what my mobile number was. I said this is my mobile. Oh, they said, sounding surprised, it sounds like a landline. So if it can fool people who work with audio all day, every day, this phone must be good.
However, for me, it's big let down is tethering. The phone broadcasts a wireless link to my PC on Win7 but it always drops out after a few seconds. Yes, turned off battery saver and data sense and any other bells and whistles I can find but still no luck.
This makes it unusable for me when I am out in the field and need to file.
Pros: Personal, Business, journalism

Great value for money, but lacking features deemed neccesary by modern standards

Lumia 520 is my first smartphone ever and I can't say I'm not satisfied with it, on the contrary, I find it easy to use and good enough for everyday tasks. The casing is of high quality and it has survived more than one fall to hard ground (although on one occasion the glass broke, but it wasn't expensive to fix).
However, when it comes to certain features such as Wi-Fi connectivity, it simply doesn't meet modern standards. This problem is not specific only to Lumia 520, but to the whole Windows Phone 8/8.1 OS. Certain types of Wi-Fi networks aren't supported so I cant' for example connect to my university's network. Another unsupported feature is static IP which makes me unable to connect to my home network (which is quite specific to setup). Therefore Wi-Fi is practically useless on my phone since I must rely on my data plan most of the time.
The phone also freezes and/or crashes occasionally, requiring a battery removal. Speaking of battery, it lasts barely a full day - with the phone hardly being used. From time to time I tend to use my phone extensively and on those days I have to charge it 3+ times.
The camera is good, but the lack of a flashlight makes it unusable under low light conditions.
The Office aplication is practically useless for document editing, it can only be used as a modest viewer.
To sum up, for users without any special requirements or expectations, the phone is good, but newer Lumia models have since come to the market with better performances in the same price range. I would therefore not recommend you to buy Lumia 520, but some model like Lumia 535, if you are zealous for Lumias. For users having higher technical skills and requirements - steer clear not only of this particular model, but of Windows Phone in general.
Pros: Personal, Business
