Love it! Got some shortcomings that I knew about before I bought it. None was a real deal breaker. I won't waste time rehashing them because the shortcomings have been already reviewed by others. I will continue to love my Weber 26.5" kettle grill but the honeymoon ended soon after the CB940X arrived. The Weber and I haven't been together since. The Weber and I are in therapy now. We won't split up but we may only see each other during holidays and big events.
Simply put the Charbroil CB940X is the best charcoal grill for price out there and I did my homework. I don't consider myself a pro but my friends and neighbors do. Oh and must mention the customer service was top notched. As good as Webers. I guess you can see I'm a Weber man been one for more than 30 year and only had 2 grills from them. But I cook on my Charbroil way more often. I have two darn good grills but only use one on a daily basis.
If you need a nuts and bolts review this ain't the one to read but if you are a real outdoor cook who uses you grill like it's a stove you understand me.
Last word, DO what the instructions say DO in regards to maintaining it. Keep that oil brushed on the inside of it and keep that ash catcher clean plus DO buy yourself a CHARBROIL COVER for it they sell two different ones that fit like a glove. DON'T Wait til later buy it when you buy the grill. You'll see why. You can thank me later.

Very disappointed. The hood does not seal to the tub letting smoke out. There is no way to adjust the air flow. What were they thinking when they designed this grill?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Just bought the grill on 5JUL2014. Have wanted one since I saw my friend's in 1978. For one reason or another I never had purchased one. Over fifty years I have had Weber kettles, Weber gas, a couple of stainless JennAires all of which pale next to the 940. I am 68 years old and assembled it myself even though it was a bit fussy. Cooks great!!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Best Grill, and it is so easy to ajust

My father bought one around 1960, not sure of the year but its close. My brother still has it and its just like new. This boy is not cheep junk, although they lightened up the grates from the early model they work. Tried to get the one from my brother but he wouldn't sell it to me, he uses some green junk think. 9000 lbs. So I bought this one from Char-Broil. You need to make some air closer for the bottom air intake, and I have a shop, so make a add on smoker. You won't be sorry. Except for the lighter grates I would give it a 5 star.

WHAT A SHAME!

I HAD A CB 860 THAT WAS MADE IN COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, THAT LASTED OVER 30 YEARS. SHE FINALLY WAS TOO FAR GONE, SO LAST YEAR I BOUGHT THIS CB940X. YES, OVER THE 30+ YEARS I HAD TO DO WHAT I CONSIDERED MINOR REHABS TO "OLD FAITHFUL." THE OLD CB 860 HAD A 5 YEAR WARRANTY THAT I NEVER HAD TO USE BECAUSE THE REHABS WERE WAY BEYOND THAT IN YEARS. THE REHABS INCLUDED TWO FIRE BASKETS AFTER 10 AND 20 YEARS ALONG WITH FIRE GRATES AND COOKING GRATES WHICH AGED GRACEFULLY. BUT THIS CHINESE IMPORT DOESN'T COME CLOSE. THE COOKING GRATES ARE REALLY NOT LONG ENOUGH TO GO EDGE TO EDGE THE DEPTH OF THE COOKING AREA. I HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO DUMP THEM ON TO THE COALS. THE HOLES IN THE LID ARE NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY FOR THE ROTISSERIE SPIT. I HAD TO REAM THEM OUT WITH A SPECIAL DRILL BIT TO ALLOW THE SPIT TO ROTATE FREELY. THE FIRE BASKET IS A JOKE. THE COALS CAN'T GO END-TO-END THE WIDTH OF THE GRILL AND THE GRATE HOLES ARE TOO BIG SO COALS FALL THROUGH TO THE BOTTOM TOO SOON. THE ASH TRAY WEIGHS ABOUT TWENTY TO THIRTY POUNDS EMPTY. THERE ARE NO BREATHER VENTS BELOW THE COALS. THE TOP VENTS DON'T MOVE FREELY TO LET HEAT OR SMOKE FLOW OUT TO CONTROL THE TEMPERATURE. THE CHEAP PLASTIC SWIVELS FOR THE FRONT WHEELS ARE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THIS 200 POUND UNIT. I HAD TO CUSTOM DESIGN SWIVEL WHEEL SUPPORTS OUT OF WOOD FURRING STRIPS. THE WARRANTY WAS ONLY FOR 90 DAYS. I'LL BE LUCKY IF THIS FIASCO LASTS 10 YEARS BEFORE I HAVE TO JUNK IT.

I have been cooking on this model since the 1970's. On 3 prior 940's we have had the rotisserie attachment. I am very disappointed that it is no longer available.

I have had several Char-Broils, every model is better that the last. Huge cooking surface and really holds the heat in for long slow cooking as well.
