What is with all the little drawers to be pulled in and out for papers? Since when did someone think this is some great idea? The problem with buying printers is that you don't know how they work until you get them home. Wish I woulda'......

Installation

There is absolutely no question that this Epson XP610 meets completely all aspects one could ask for in a home use printer. I bought it for the photo quality Epson is noted for. However, the installation is a completely another story. I have been using printers since 1984 with my Cp/M Kaypro 8/86 computer. Of the approximately dozen printers I've used in these last 30 years this machine was without doubt the most difficult to set up and install. In these days of continual advance technology not having a simple booklet explaining each installation step would have solved more than a couple of hours of frustration before getting the install right.

Disappointed

There is much to like about the Epson XP610 all-in-one printer, but I rated it at only three stars because of ink usage. The printer will stop printing if one of the ink cartridges is depleted, even if the depleted cartridge is yellow and you want to print only in black and white. This means you must constantly have on hand spare cartridges, and you will need A LOT of them because this printer sucks ink at a voracious level from those tiny, tiny cartridges. Beware of head cleaning as that also uses copious amounts of ink. (This probably discourages people like me from performing needed maintenance.) I use the printer for home and work and am going through one or more full sets of cartridges each month. Before buying this printer, I recommend you check the price of Epson cartridges, and figure the annual cost of cartridges based on your typical usage. I had hoped that this printer would serve all my needs, but with the cost of ink, I can't continue to use it on a daily basis. I will probably have to buy a laser printer for my daily black/white needs and reserve the Epson inkjet for rare color printing, which is does very well. I'm unhappy that I have to shell out money for a second (laser) printer because the (inkjet) Epson XP610 all-in-one is not all-in-one for me.

Quality Printing but not Easy to Learn/Use

Epson XP-610 print quality is very good, but I've had numerous problems figuring out HOW (or even IF) I can do things I expect from a printer.
For example, I haven't been able to get grayscale printing, which is what I want 99% of the time. Using color ink greatly increases printing costs and I wouldn't have bought this printer if I knew I could NOT get grayscale.
Also, I have one network computer that does NOT have wireless capabilities. Using this printer from that computer has been a challenge, to say the least. Using the Epson website, it took too long to figure out exactly what type of USB cable I needed. Luckily, I was able to cobble together some existing cables into a configuration that worked.
Also, I've never had a printer with so many pull-out trays. It would be nice if the trays were at least labeled to make it clear which tray customer was pulling out and what its function is. Language barriers could be overcome with int'l symbols.
LBNL, error messages on the printer's screen have not been very helpful. It is esp. frustrating when all it does is beep and say there's an error. Surely, some sort of error message ID could be provided.

Not a Finished Product

This printer wasn't too difficult to setup with a Windows OS. It has randomly wasted paper or stopped before the documents are finished printing. The thing that annoys me the most is how long and how noisy it is when it does something, like canceling a print or turning off. I don't know why things seem to be moving around constantly for minutes just to cancel a print or turn itself off. It also does this parade of movements when it's done printing every document, which becomes annoying when you're printing many documents one right after the other.
Wireless printing works well. The scanner is great but can't wirelessly scan to your computer, so you have to use a cable or a flashdrive.
Buy it if it's on sale and you don't print often.

Disappointing Epson Premium XP-610 printer

I am returning this printer to you because it does not function as professionally or expeditiously as the previous Epson 725 Artisan printer that I previously owned. This XP-610 printer does not have the automatic capability of printing CDs/DVDs like the 725 Artisans. You constantly have to manually handle that CD/DVD tray while you struggle to hold it before you could print any discs. It is also an ink guzzler and uses up too much ink. I am very disappointed!

CD/DVD Printing not as good as the Artisan printer
on February 28, 2014

Epson went back to their old ways of using a separate cd/dvd tray for cd/dvd printing. I have no idea why. The artisan series of printers had the printing tray built into the printer, which made it way more efficient and easier to print onto a cd/dvd. Now, you have to load the cd/dvd onto the tray, then insert the tray into the printer and make sure it's lined up perfectly. It's horrible.
If you're buying this printer with the main focus of printing onto cd/dvds, don't buy any of the Expression line printers.
I gave it 1 star based on this fact alone. None of the other features/settings matter to me. If you don't care about cd/dvd printing, disregard my review.
