When this printer is low on ink, it shuts down!! You can not print or scan with wifi and it will not work until you change the ink!
Do not buy unless you have lots of ink cartridges on hand!
Very Very frustrating...

Epson Expression Premium XP-610 Small-in-One

I purchased this printer a couple of months ago to replace a very old Photo Stylus 340 that I finally wore out printing hundreds of pictures, letters, and color titles on both paper and printable DVD's and CD's. I am a senior citizen and have been very much into photography and video production since the late 60's. I have been selling prints and videos, slideshows, etc as a business for the last five years. I have owned numerous printers during these years, mostly Epson, because I have found by experience that they are the best for printing photographs. I feel this experience gives me some insight into what to expect from this printer and to be able to objectively compare it to others. When I saw the size of this printer sitting on the shelf in the store, and then saw it's low price, I was very skeptical that it would be durable and able to match the print quality of my older printer. These concerns have proven to be unfounded so far. I have not owned it long enough to rate its durability but I am already amazed at it's print quality on CDs and DVDs and the stunning pictures it produces on the Epson premium papers. It also prints better on plain inkjet paper than other printers I have tried. I also like the individual ink cartridges with the two different color blacks. It did not use up a large amount of the supplied ink to initially charge the ink tubes and heads. I have printed a fair amount of DVDs and paper prints and still have over half of the supplied ink remaining. So far it seems to be an excellent backup to my wide format and much more expensive Epson 3000. It actually loads the DVDs more consistently and accurately than the old Epson 340 and prints more accurate colors, with better resolution on them. I also love the double sided printing capability as it is saving me paper. This is the first printer I have used that requires the paper to be loaded into trays. The trays work great and so far the paper loads perfectly every time. The printer is small and sits easily on my computer desk next to my monitor. It scans and copies well. I did have some trouble getting used to the very sensitive touch screen. It also is a little noisy when it is parking the heads and charging the ink, but very quiet when actually printing. This is the least expensive printer I have ever purchased. So far It has exceeded my expectations, especially when considering it's very low cost. I have not used it's WiFi capabilities yet but I am sure those features are great for many other people. I feel that it is a bargain and I will continue to be satisfied if it proves to be half as durable as the other Epson printers I have owned. I feel assured I made a good choice in choosing this model specifically for my needs, knowing that if I have a problem Epson will provide me great support as they always have.

Please Do Not Purchase This Printer

Please don't delete this review Epson!
*The software for this printer was designed to do the following:
1. Drain the ink cartridges prior to printing a document
2. Mandate multiple head cleanings after installing ink cartridges, which drains the ink cartridges (1/3 of your new ink will be gone prior to printing a single document). If you don't clean the head and align the nozzle multiple times, the printer will print blank documents and drain the ink even further.
There has been multiple class action lawsuits against epson for these issues (google it).
It's actually a great printer that has been programmed to cost you more than it would have been to pay a printing service.

There are better printers

Mine for no reason will not print. It just sits there and makes noise. When I press the cancel button it says canceling job. This will be on the screen 15 minutes later. The same if I try to shut it down. Half an hour later it is still shutting down. Have to unplug the printer to get it to shut down. It also is telling me that I need to replace the magenta and yellow cartridges. This is odd because I have never printed in color. Setting is grayscale on white paper.
I does do a good job when it wants to work. I had Epson printers before. Never had this problem.

Outstanding Small Performer

My primary reason for purchasing this printer was to be able to print directly on CD/DVDs. I had tried other brands and either their software was confusing to use or the print alignment was off or difficult to adjust. I was amazed at how easy this printer was to use, and how good the quality was for such a small printer. It will also do a very good job with the other functions. The quality of the photos was as good or better than other more expensive printers that I have had in the past. It also has easy to get to SIM card and USB ports right on the front.

Wouldn't recommend

We first had the Epson xp 810. Everything was fine until we had to change the ink cartidges. Then we had nothing but problems. We purchased the xp 610 two months ago. Everything fine again until it was time to change the cartridges the first time. New cartridges, poor picture quality. Then wouldn't recognize magenta. Then showed magenta low despite only two weeks old. Updated drivers. Print test worked fine. Tried to print picture on photo paper. The black has lines in it. I tried to print a form on regular paper. Wouldn't print the black. My wife tried to align but wouldn't print the first part of the test. No impressed with Epson printers. The first lasted approximately a year before trouble, and the second less than two months. Would not recommend.

Worst printer I have ever owned

The XP-610 is a constant headache. It continually fails to recognize print cartridges, forcing me to re-insert the cartridges several times every time I power it on until it finally senses the cartridges are OK. I doesn't matter whether they are genuine Epson or non-name-brand cartridges--I've purchased and tried both based on some troubleshooting suggestions. It did this several times right out of the box with the original cartridges supplied by Epson with the printer, but I thought it might just need to go through a burn-in period of sorts. That was not the case and it has become even worse with retail replacement cartridges. I've assembled and repaired computer systems for over 15 years, so I have a bit of experience. During this time I've used several of another company's printers with relatively few problems and even recommended them to friends, but bought the XP-610 based on the promoted features and a special price. That was a mistake. I need a reliable printer, so I'm returning the XP-610 and going back to the previous manufacturer to whom I should have remained loyal. I could have spared my wife and myself a lot of frustration.

Paper trays are hard to grasp. Can't shut lower tray door completely while output tray is pulled out. Otherwise it prints beautifully.
