This has to be the most annoying printer I've ever had.
It's not even remotely intuitive to use, and the "directions" given with the constant error messages make no sense whatsover. Even trying to find the user manual isn't easy - I downloaded it and the file isn't called something obvious like "epsonxp610." No, it's something like "cps" followed by numbers. How is that helpful to anyone?
As for operating the printer itself, I have yet to successfully print anything without spending at least 20 minutes getting it to work. In the last half hour, it's told me that it wasn't online (it was), that there's no paper in the tray (there was), that another tray has to be open (it was open).... I turned it off and on three times and resent the print request at least 4 times. Finally, after going through all this, the one page I needed printed. Completely standard behavior for this machine, as far as I can tell.
Trying to print out invitations to a baby shower was particularly trying, and I just gave up after 45 minutes and left it to someone else.
All in all, while the print quality is fine, trying to get the machine to work is so annoying I had to comment here.

S/w setup a little tricky
on July 9, 2014

The setup CD s/w couldn't find the printer from our other 3 XP PCs (on a wired LAN with Wi-fi). Finally used the "Add a printer" Wizard, selected Standard TCP/IP Port, and provided an IP address. When it asked for the drivers, I drilled down thru the setup CD to find the .INF file. Bingo! it worked on all 3 PCs!
Also the XP-610 will run on both the USB connection (print & scan) and the Wi-fi (print) together. (Never tried printing simultaneously on both) The SD slot and the USB port are available to the USB-connected PC.
The XL ink cartridges are a little hard to find locally. They're not at the local BB or BJ's club.

Not necessarily user friendly

First off, it's wireless, so when our router went out 2 weeks after we got it, it was "dead in the water", so be aware of that. Also, when we got the new router installed and supposedly configured this little gem to it, we kept getting messages that the printer/scanner was not connected to the computer. We worked on that and got it to print, but it is still saying that the scanner is not connected to the computer...it's the same machine, so what's up with that? Then, that blank panel in front with the little green light "on" button and nothing else, gives no hint that it's really a touch screen. Hmmm...and the menu is not so easy to figure out after you finally get that little touch screen to light up. I did scan photos before the router went out, but again had to use trial and error to figure out positioning, and it prints well enough, again after trial and error by the store "tech" who installed it found that the tray which was not marked has to be pulled out all the way in order to print, and when there's a problem, it does not always pop up a window to let you know what the problem is so sometimes you don't know the reason for errors or delays. Thus...it's not necessarily user friendly. Thanks for asking.

Started Out Great

Taken out of the box, this was a great printer. Once I changed the initial ink cartridges, I've used up most of the new ink in cleaning the printheads because of spotty printing. I've had to do this almost every time I go to print. Really annoying!

Horrible

This printer uses too much ink and the ink is expensive. Costly, and printing simple documents makes the ink wear down quickly. I wished I did not buy this printer because the ink quality and price of the ink is costly. I should be able to print multiple times without having to purchase more ink. Do not buy this printer.

Compact and Works Well

I have had this printer for 2 months. I have the printer set up for remote print by email address, wifi, and normal USB connection. I specifically purchased this printer for college when during vacation, I had an online mid-term due which required printing and scanning. It worked perfectly. It is my go-to printer at home now, too. It's great, traveled well, and is one of the most compact I could find for a reasonable price. Print quality is great. Came with manufacturer's intro ink cartridges to get you through about 200 pages black and white. Color is still full, too. I highly recommend this product. Very pleased.

Won't print using black only

Won't let you print in "black only" mode using only the black ink cartridge. OR if it does has this ability, the setting is hidden so deep I can't find it, and the instruction manual does not work as I've opened the Epson App and there is no setting to allow black only printing and actually get it to work without PBK cartridge. 90% of my printing is black and white documents. It makes no sense to require PBK cartridge to be required to print black only.

Pros: quality printing for a very friendly price. CD/DVD label printing is great as usual with this line of printers. Copy is also great. Scanning is not tested yet. Set to quiet will put the printer is a real quiet mode. try it for yourself Cons: Ink price is much less friendly. The wireless is not that easy. The driver could not be loaded in a Windows 8 Enterprise 64-bit. In brief: I like the quality/price of this printer and I would recommend it to my friends.
