A Single Guy's Laundry Assassinator

In search of a replacement washer for my aging agitator-style washing machine, a phone call from my son and daughter-in-law began me investigating the Whirlpool line. Having been a long time ago Whirlpool customer, it didn't take long before a decision to purchase another Whirlpool product was made and the machine delivered. I must say I faced learning to operate a new machine with a somewhat elevated level of fear. I like things simple, and the array of setting available on my new unit further enhanced my fear level. However, much to my amazement, the Whirlpool washing machine was not only easy to use but, by pushing the various settings, it indicated how economical a particular array of setting was. It was more like a game where you can make selections to improve your winning or, in this case, achieve the greatest economical results. With me, I'm pretty much a permanent press/whites only type of guy. So, 95% of my washing machine adventures consist of selecting one of two laundry positions. The dispenser in which laundry detergent is placed is easy to reach. You then simply close the lid and push start. It's fantastically simply. And fast. It seems I barely have time to raid the refrigerator before the washing machine is announcing its completion of the load. Definitely one of the best purchases I have made in quite a long time.

Great features, but could have even more.

I love my new Cabrio washer. It's easy to use, and its many options provide flexibility. Two things should be changed: 1. The lid is slightly curved, enabling anything on top of the washer to slide right off when it is running. 2. I can't even begin to read the printing on the pullout drawer for the detergent. There must be a better way to identify what the compartments are for. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to tell you what I think!

Decent

For the price, this has been a decent washer. There are a lot of different setting options which is nice, but some of them seem just for show, like the "ecoboost". I read the instructions and still don't have a clear idea of what this really does. The one thing I have noticed is that my clothes seem to wear out faster. My shirts seem to get pilly and more worn looking at a faster rate than normal. I'm not sure if this is due to using less water and therefore more friction for the fabric, or just the washer itself.

I researched top loading washers before buying the Cabrio 5600. I bought it for the features it has and the price. I am at a point in life where I only do a few loads of laundry a week so am happy with my purchase. My favorite features on this machine are the delicate cycle, the quick wash cycle, the ability to pause a load to add an item or run out for an errand, the time remaining display, and the stabilizers. The noise is different than my previous traditional washer but not louder. I have had a couple of instances where soap residue was left on one item but it came right out when I washed it again. Also, a couple of times when washing large items like beach towels, one towel was wrapped around the rest of the load and looked like a mushroom when I opened the lid. On the delicate cycle, one item may come out almost dry making me wonder if it ever got wet. I do find the laundry seems to be clean and have been able to get stains out as with my past washers. I generally only have lightly soiled items to wash. The biggest drawback to this machine is that the clothes come out very wrinkled. The length of the cycles is long but I got used to it. Also, it is important to use the detergent as directed. Read the manual and the detergent directions. You don't need a lot!I paid for the features I wanted knowing that the more expensive machines offer more features not more durability. Washers are no longer made to last 20 years. If you are doing several loads a day or frequent loads of moderate to heavy soiled laundry it may be better to look at other options with more features.

I have always had Whirlpool washers and dryers. After 35 years of marriage I don't think I would change. This is my first high efficiency model and I love that you just put the clothes in, pick your cycle and the machine knows what the water level should be. I bought this to match the Cabrio dryer I had to buy a few months earlier. Funny thing is my son just bought the same model without even knowing what I had. I am hoping these machines will last just as long as my other Whirlpools have.

This washer has performed well so far

I purchased this washer nearly a year ago. It has performed well . We haven't had any issues with it yet but am worried about future issues. After purchasing the washer a friend who does appliance repair said these tend to have issues with the computer board and are very expensive to repair. The washer was quite expensive compared to a standard washer. Some people have complained about wrinkly clothes, but that hasn't been a problem for me. Most of my clothes go in the dryer which takes care of any wrinkles; other items are hung to dry and most wrinkles fall out. Items can get quite tightly tangled though and I worry that eventually something will be torn. So far the washer has been trouble free, spins the clothes quite well for shorter drying times, cost it high but it's doing its job.
