4k media player

I had the tech come to the house to upgrade the 4k TV. then tried to install the media player. Have not been able to get it working. I will have to call support again Monday. Ever the tech that upgraded the TV was unable to get it to work. I've never had this much trouble with a Sony product.

Sony® 4K Ultra FMP-X1 HD Media Player Front USB

Sony® 4K Ultra FMP-X1 HD Media Player Front USB ports & SD Memory Card do not work.
If you plug in a flash drive the light on the flash drive lights up as well if as an example you plugged in a USB powered 500 gig hard drive or a 10gig memory flash drive; and that would be all of what happens. No place on the GUI of the Media Player or on the SONY 65 4K TV does the plugged in devices on the Media Player front ports show as if they are recognized on the TV GUI. The added USB port on the rear is recognized if you format the drive when you add an external drive. This port works just fine as I have transferred some content from the internal drive to the external drive to save space.
Strangely the faster USB front port is rated as a USB 3.0 port and the rear a USB 2.0 port – I assume and I hope that future software updates will active these two ports - or I will discover that this unit was defective since day one.

Worst purchase ever. Sony audio does not work.

I have been working with Sony to get my pioneer sc71 receiver to work with the media box. I have this hooked up perfectly. When the hdmi port 2 is hooked to the receiver, the sound still comes out of tv and goes in and out. The few times that the receiver does get the sound, the sound goes in and out. No one from Sony knows what is going on.

Beware of connection limitations

I was appalled to find out from Sony that you can't run this sever through a new Sony 4K recover for audio/video switching. The only way to watch the 4K movies is through direct connection. This is a joke.
What's great about it: good picture quality on some videos
What's not so great: Can't run through a Sony 4k receiver
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi Karmajoe. Thank you for your feedback here. As you might be aware, the FMP-X1 Media Player is a technologically advanced product that allows the transfer of 4K content securely to your TV. The process the Media Player uses for playback and control is more advanced than current AVR receiver technologies can support. As a result, Sony engineers included dual HDMI outputs to allow AVR receivers to continue to support the home theater experience without having to support the pass-through of the 4K video signal through the same HDMI. While not ideal, by sending separate signals for Audio and Video, the connectivity solution will still allow you the best in Audio and Video performance using your Sony AVR, 4K UHD Display, and Sony 4K UMD Media Player. ...just not enough in 4K yet. The server itself however works great. Hard to review the device itself because really it's the Video Unlimited interface you are dealing with

First off, I have no idea why everyone is complaining about their server not working with their equipment. Maybe they didn't have it installed correctly. You know what, they prolly got the wrong cables (yellow, red, white instead of green, red, blue) silly people. I hope they know, "you can pay someone to install it for you!"
Anyhoo. One word can be used to describe this server; freaking awesome bro!!! K that was more like three, who cares I am excited. My cat can't even tell the maid on the screen apart from my real one. Yes its that real. My Little Pony sparkles to live with vivid detail and stunning colors. Ms Doubtfire more like Misses Nodoubtfire in beautiful 4k. This server makes Sandra Bernhard sexy.
You need this machine. It will change your life.
