I replaced my eMTA to increase my speed, per request of Xfinity to get the speed I was paying for. Not sure if it was actually necessary as even speed test doesn't show any difference! Yes, newer switch, higher speed cable, etc.

Purchased to work with Xfinity. Installation and setup went quickly and without a hitch. Customizing SSID and password was simple, and the internet speeds were fantastic. I would definitely recommend.

Tried two different (new) modems. Both were locked up on someone else’s Xfinity account. Gave up and will keep renting from Xfinity.

It turns the cabely-bits into home-lan-bits and vice versa, and the phone works. So far seems pretty stable.

An outstanding replacement for my outdated modem

My cable company's software changes made my SLOWER modem - which had worked flawlessly for 15 years - obsolete. I replaced it with the NETGEAR Nighthawk 2.5Gbps Internet Speed Cable Modem with Voice (CM2050V) and have been delighted with both NETGEAR's customer service and the outstanding performance of the modem. My download and upload speeds have almost doubled. Also, it works flawlessly with my new router.
Please note that this modem model has only one ethernet outlet port. If you want multiple ethernet outlets, please choose one of NETGEAR's fine modem/router combo products. You will not be disappointed.

Ditch your Xfinity Gateway

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I only wish that I had made the switch sooner, for the first time I am actually getting what I paid for in regards to my Internet speed, to tell you the truth it seems to be a little bit faster. I haven't needed to reset or reboot my modem yet since I changed over from the Xfinity gateway. I am a paralyzed veteran so my whole house is smart and I really rely on technology, previously I was resetting xfinitys Gateway three times a day just to get my plan speed or so that it would actually work. Now I am no longer paying Xfinity rent for a piece of junk that doesn't work. The speed from this modem and my wireless router together absolutely crush what I was getting before. I have had zero issues I totally recommend making the switch, you have to remember if you have a voice plan you need to get a modem with voice or you will lose your deal even if you do not use the phone. This is the obvious choice.
