Got this as a cheaper and more compact alternative to the ninja creami, and we already had the kitchenaid freezer bowl. But this has been really nice to use on more of a whim and to experiment with. They are pretty small but it’s really not that much more than you’d eat in 2 decently big portions. Works really fast and it’s kinda crazy how smooth the ice cream it makes is considering it’s just blending up the frozen block. Only complaint is it’s annoying to try and clean the mixer assembly, not sure why it says do not immerse when it’s almost impossible to not, but we’ll see if that’s a problem.
I sold my ninja creamy because it was far too loud. The Fast Freeze is the perfect solution for making fantastic ice cream without having to find my earplugs first.
Love my FastFreeze ice cream maker. I love the ease of use and clean up. Containers are just the right size for a generous serving of ice cream. The only problem is waiting overnight for the cream to freeze!!!!
I really really reeeeeeally like this Cuisinart FastFreeze. It's quiet, it's size makes it easy to store, and it's a fun and consistently reliable novelty to use. Use any ice cream base recipe you want, from your cookbooks (David Lebovitz's books are GREAT) to whatever recipe you find online. In my and my husband's opinions, the product from the FastFreeze rivals store-bought. The portion size of the cups are perfect for 2 servings on movie night.
The HUGE DOWNSIDE::: Cleaning it is really really reeeeeeeally aggravating. First, preheat the kitchen sink water to Dante's-7th-Circle-of-Hell-HOT, because that's the only thing you'll be able to use when cleaning it. Next, you have to push OUT the blade assembly, that's on a very high-tension, heavyweight spring, *while* you rinse the blade and rod under the running, hot water. Yes, that's correct, forget using the cleaning and sanitizing power of a brush or sponge with dish soap.....BOTH your hands are engaged, using brute-force, with keeping the blade assembly out during cleaning. The entire task is cumbersome (it's a STRONG spring), somewhat precarious (if it slips while you're holding it with your wet hands, it's a hard snap-back) and actually prevents adequate sanitation/cleaning of the assembly. I have to repeat the ""push-shaft-with-Herculean-force-and-hold-it-out-as-long-as-my-strength-lasts-while-quickly-running-it-under-very-hot-water-to-dissolve-the-ice-cream-base-away"" a FEW times simply because the process is so draconian. To support my statements on the task of cleaning, please see YouTube video entitled::: Cuisinart FastFreeze Unboxing and First Use | Better than the Ninja Creami? | The Floral Apron, time stamp 24:03 . In the video, she makes it look easy, because only a small portion of the blade assembly is being cleaned.....I want the entire length of the rod cleaned or there's still bits of ice cream base left behind. I'd love to hear tips to make cleaning easier. Otherwise, the machine is really great, hence me NOT subtracting stars for the punishing task of cleaning it. Cuisinart, what say you?
I have both the creamy and the Fast Freeze and my daily driver is the fast freeze because I prefer the smaller portion size, the easy of use and cleaning and how quiet it is. It doesn’t get as creamy but it’s fairly close. I wish additional cups were more affordable.
