The Ooni Volt 2 is an absolute powerhouse. I’m a longtime Ooni fan with an outdoor wood-fired oven in the backyard, and while nothing fully replaces that flavor, the Volt 2 gets shockingly close — indoors, anytime, no smoke, no fuss.
One tip: if you’re using homemade dough, skip the semolina on the stone prior to the pizza. This oven runs *so* hot it’ll burn the flour instantly. I slid my dough straight onto the stone and three minutes later pulled out a pizza good enough to make my wood-fired setup jealous.
Bottom line: the Volt 2 is fast, consistent, and ridiculously good. If you love great pizza, just get it. 🍕🔥
They actually did it. Ooni somehow got dangerously close to recreating a true Neapolitan pizza oven, indoors, without requiring me to explain to the fire department why my smoke alarm is crying. The oven works perfectly. Stone temperature, dome temperature… all the temperatures. It’s like it went to Naples for a semester abroad and came back with confidence issues. Now, during my first couple attempts at Neapolitan pizza, the bottom kept burning. Naturally, I blamed the oven. Was it the sugar? The flour? A cosmic imbalance? No. It was me. Just me. (Okay, maybe a sprinkle of extra flour. ) You see, I had been using the Volt 12 indoors, where I always compensated by adding extra cook time. The Volt 2, on the other hand, is an honest 90-second cook. You treat it like a proper outdoor wood-fired oven, and boom, perfect pizza. If you enjoy pretending you’re in a tiny Neapolitan alley turning a pizza with a peel like some culinary Jedi, this oven rewards you. You even get to use the “boost” function (which I still haven’t figured out, but I press it with conviction). And the results? Out of this world. Bravo, Ooni. You knocked this one out of the park… and into my stomach.
The oven works great but it is not really a great thing to use inside. If a launch goes bad - watch out! The smell is horrible. I have the oven next to my vented fan. Under ideal conditions (when you don't have a launch disaster) it is ok. But it really needs to be next to an exhaust fan. I may be banned to use it on the deck in good weather. The smoke suppression is useless.
I'm so close. The setting as it is overcooks the bottom and undercooks the top of the pizza. I'm trying to figure out the best way to correct that and haven't gotten there yet. Other than that I love the oven, exactly what I needed.
The Ooni Volt 2 could be a very good machine - but there are some issues that get in the way of that. Firstly, it takes a long time to heat up, so it’s not the best device for cooking just one pizza, or for an impromptu meal. Second, there are so few recipes available for it, reducing the value of the device’s settings. I expected to see more recipes being released for things other than just pizza - there are a few, but not many.
