Bought this shortly after it was made available. All around great streaming, but the Included cable is not high enough quality to handle higher quality streaming selections like HDR or Dolby video. I had to buy a higher quality cable to avoid getting HDMI errors. Also it would be REALLY nice if it had a 10/100/1000 Ethernet connection. Yes I know that streaming only requires 45 Meg for 4k but the 150+ meg that I get with WiFi gives better quality and faster download speeds, but I prefer wired connections. The rechargeable remote that was included is nice but it is so buggy that I threw it in the drawer and used an older remote which works just fine. Otherwise I'm happy with the Ultra model 4802.
This worked very well for about a year. Now, every evening, like clockwork no matter what we're streaming, we can count on having to unplug, reboot and reconnect to our internet. This will happen several times in a 2-3 hour span while other connected devices in the house have no issues, losing connectivity to the internet. I hate to think that I'd have to buy a new one of these every year to not have issues like this.
This is garbage. I am a fan of Roku products, but not this thing. Sound cuts out all the time in Netflix. When watching HBO Max if you pause then unpause a show, it brings you several minutes back, to parts I already saw. Every day I have to unplug it to get rid of the black static sounding screen. Went back to Roku 3, old reliable.
When is Roku going to finally allow the remote control to control AV receivers? Still need to use two remote controls when you’re running it through my receiver for volume control, fire sticks so much more advanced. And I still can’t tell if the ultra will decode ultra high definition, audio from Amazon music.
I bought the Roku Ultra six months ago. Frustrated with Apple TV. When the Roku Ultra is working, it is fine, just like the Apple TV. Video and sound are excellent. On the other hand: The iPhone app is useless. The most irritating "feature" is that, every once in a while, I have to do a complete reset. Unplug the HDMI cables. unplug the TV, unplug the Roku Ultra. Plug in the HDMI cables... Really? This is so primitive. You can't build in an applet that resets everything? ls this the '70s? or what? The other annoying "feature" is the connection with the sound bar. Not sure whether this is a Roku problem or a Samsung problem. Either way, it is primitive. Hate all remotes that make you scroll through keyboards, letter by letter. Navigating through the various channels is often a pain. Why doesn't anyone make the user experience intuitive? Why doesn't the CEO demand excellence from his engineers? By that I mean designing for the customer, instead of putting band aids on the compatibility problems. I am sure there are reasons, but excellence is measured in performance, not "good enough."
I've gone through two of these in about two years. They are great when they work but considering how long they last for the money you pay, they are junk. You're better off buying one of the less expensive models. They have fewer problems and work better.
Every time I try to watch a show on ACORN it plays for about 30 seconds and then reverts to the main menu. I also have a Roku 3 on another tv. I can watch the same ACORN show on it with no problems using the same Acorn account. Could not find a way to contact customer support so I'm putting it here.
