Remember "New Coke"

Remember "New Coke"? Neither does anyone else because CocaCola screwed up their tried and true recipe with it. I'm sad to say that Kindsford is headed down the same path! These new briquettes don't burn like they used to: more ash, more white smoke, need more per cook. Who knows...maybe Kingsford is priming us for "Kingsford Classic"!

What’s changed?

I’ve been using Kingsford original since the late 80’s and the formula has for sure changed. I burn it in a Weber Smokey Mountain but as of late the amount of ash and heavy white smoke have proven to be too much. It definitely does not perform like the “older” version. I have made the switch to lump charcoal because of this and having been using the smoker for 13 years it is a bit of a pain and time consuming to regulate heat. One thing about the “ “older version” Kingsford is the coals do produce steady heat. I’m unlikely to go back to Kingsford.

Bought a bag . This is three time I've tried it. Never got good results. Hard time lighting and didn't give off heart and heat around 350 degrees. Usually around 400-500 degrees.

Terrible charcoal. Don’t waste your money

The new version sucks. Go back to the true original version if you want my business. New version burns way to fast and it doesn’t smell good and the taste of meat is off. I always got Kingsford for grilling but no more. Now I got to go. Time to finish cooking my steaks on the George Forman

Burning Charcoal

Hi i bought 4 double bags 3 weeks ago and i noticed the charcoal burns differently . They burn faster and the are popping sparking . I really don't like that. I'm the only one the BBQs

Been using the charcoal for over thirty years and have enjoyed many grilling foods, however, this last bag I purchased makes my chicken and other meats taste like it is laced with lighter fluid. We use only the newspaper and chimney to light the coals. I am very disappoiinted in the product. It leaves an after taste on the meat and me with a headache.

Terrible taste like chemicals

We always use lump coal. We tried this brand and everyone complained of a chemical taste similar to lighter fluid. We use paper and a vortex chimney to light no fluid. I hope it doesn’t tarnish our reputation.
