what happened?

I bought some Kingsford charcoal for the first time in several years. What happened to the over-stuffed pillow loook and the density and hardness of the brickettes? They now look like they have already been burned!! The deterioration of quality for the supposed easier lighting is terrible. They are now no better than anyone elses. I and oterhs have to use about 30% more charcoal using these new inferior pieces.
