I have used Kingsford Charcoal for 30 years. Over that time i have seen a change in the product. Its smaller and does not burn any where near as long as older formula.

Old bag works better

I found an old bag of Kingsford charcoal at my father's house and was suprised how much Kingsford has changed. His Kingsford is heavier, and burns a lot longer. I frequently have to add coals half way grilling because they burn faster, and not as hot. They now work about like Royal Oak, but still not as bad as the store brands. I never had a problem lighting it, and his has no K stampped on it. Is there a plan to bring back the retro formula, I hear a lot of similar reviews, and almost BBQ every day. I have a Competition bag, but it seems to burn even faster

Dependable for heat and longevity

I have been using Kingsford for like forever. Tried the store and cheaper brands and found they are a waste of money. I smoked a pork butt one weekend and even after it was finished in the afternoon, the fire pan was still hot the next day. When I smoke I will add it to lump charcoal and my temps have stayed even for hours. I don't use lighter fluid and it still only takes about 30 min. to get them lit and ready.
