I like it, but it's only been a week. I haven't had to pull it out to clean it yet and am not particularly looking forward to that, since I don't have a lot of counter space to work with (see photo - and don't worry, there is plenty of clearance around the sides & back). The machine weighs almost 50 lbs, and if left in place, the hoses aren't long enough to drain into a bucket from where it sits. I may have reconsidered this purchase had I known I'd have to move it weekly in order to clean it. There are only so many places I can fit a machine this size in my small home & kitchen.
That being said, I like the ice and it's keeping up with my family. Not quite as soft and chewy as the legendary Sonic ice, but still chewable enough; and solid enough to stay frozen in your drink for a long while. My drink is now cold enough in my stainless steel cup that it sometimes freezes inside of, and clogs, my stainless straw. Good problem to have.
I do wish GE specified in the manual whether or not we can use an ice-maker descaling solution above and beyond the prescribed bleach and vinegar cleaning instructions. SIDE NOTE, don't ever mix bleach and vinegar or you'll produce chlorine gas. These are separate cleaning methods.
Lastly, I'd like to mention a strange phenomenon I haven't seen any other owners mention. Before an ice cycle begins, the machine is supposed to flush itself with water for 5 minutes. That includes spraying water all over the bin of perfectly already made ice. I don't understand the point of melting your ice down in order to remake it. If I catch it happening, I "rescue" the ice and take the opportunity to refill cups. It doesn't destroy all, but maybe half of the ice in the bin, so it's not a complete loss. But why can't the spray head aim behind the bin for this function? It's already capable of motion, as it seems to be the same mechanism involved in the cleaning cycle. Not a big deal, I suppose; I just like to understand the logic of these things ;)

Better than expected

We bought this finally after two years of waiting. We read all the reviews and compared to other personal ice machines. Setup is simple. Machine was heavier than expected. Started making ice within 20 min of turning on. It had a full bin within the next few hours. Its been 3 days and seems to keep up with our family ice needs. Considering its been 100+ outside for over a week I would say that's impressive.

We love it! We are access with sonic and this is the exact same eyes we had it running for 24 hours straight and produced 5 gallon Ziploc bags of ice

So far I love my new OPAL! The ice is great and I am able to make a batch and freeze it for daily use or my next party. No noise issue and I am using distilled water to avoid mineral deposits. Thank you GE!
