We love our nugget ice maker! We use distilled water and have had no issues with that. I think we had an air bubble from the water reservoir which caused an annoying high pitched sound. I tried so many things and it eventually just went away on its own after 2ish weeks.
I absolutely LOVE the ice this machine makes. I didn't realize how much I would have to clean it out (about every 3-4 weeks) and it's quite a process to move the heavy machine to the sink area and drain it multiple times with a diluted bleach mix. I've cleaned it regularly because it started making a loud groaning type noise that is quite disruptive to the house. Cleaning it makes it happen less often although I'm not sure why because the noise seems to come from the back of the machine where the motor and fan are and not necessarily associated with the ice being made or water going through the tubes.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hello there! Thank you for providing us with your valuable feedback. We are ecstatic to hear that you are loving your new Opal icemaker and the ice it produces. We apologize about the noise this appliance makes, as we know it can be annoying. However, it is normal for the appliance to exude noise when cleaning is needed. We appreciate you choosing GE Appliances for your home, and we hope you enjoy your icemaker for many years to come! - Adrian@GEA
We received this product and we love the ice that it makes and it worked very well for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks of use it started making a horrible noise and not producing Ice so we began the warranty process. Since this was a Christmas present by the time we got to the warranty people it was stated that because of the amount of time since purchase all they could do is send a remanufactured product. So 2 months later we finally got our new used unit. So far it is working good, but only been runnning for (2) days and we have no idea how much this item was used before it was remanufactured! Nice product when it is working.

We appreciate you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are so sorry to hear that your new icemaker has to be replaced under warranty. We know how frustrating this must be. We would like to gather some further information from you. An agent will be reaching out to you via email. Please respond to the email at your earliest convenience. We are looking forward to connecting with you! - Adrian@GEA
My sibling and parents both have one and it is great...but the one I got was a dud from the start. It has been nearly impossible to get anywhere with customer support. I really want a good one but I don't know what to do. Mine has made a horrible screaming noise from day one. I want to rate higher and I would recommend to a friend but I just got a bad product.

Hello - We appreciate you connecting in and sharing your experience. It's always important for us to know what is going on.
We're really sorry to hear about your Opal making those noises, we know how bothersome that can be to deal with. While it can be normal for the Opal to make some sounds when producing and making ice, we definitely agree it shouldn't be screaming.
We definitely would recommend filling out our Opal Support form, this way one of our agents can check everything and help out. Here is the link: https://onpoint-warranty-opal.kustomer.help/contact/ge-opal-support-request-BJSXXYkKc
