Love the ice but the overheating and not making ice consistently les me to a 3 star review. We clean every 3 weeks and still can’t get good ice production out of a machine that is 3 months old. Going to call GE and see about a replacement.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to reach out with this feedback. We are so sorry to hear of these issues you are having with your icemaker, and we can certainly understand your frustration with it not producing enough ice.
If the icemaker is going into defrosting mode without a sound that indicates the auger being frozen, it is likely that the air vents are blocked. We would recommend making sure that there is at least 3 inches of space around the sides and back of the unit to not constrict airflow. Also, please make sure that the side tank is not blocking either of the vents, as it should be pulled in line with the front of the unit.
If the above steps do not solve the issue for you, we would advise reaching out to our Opal Support Team. They can be reached at myopalservice.com or by calling 866-907-6718, M-F 8-8 EST.
We hope this helps, and please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns you may have in the future. -Elliot@GEA

Have had the ice maker for 8 months and everything was great up until about 1 month or so ago. Noises have changed and gotten worse, its overheating, and now as of 2 days ago, it just doesnt want to produce ice anymore. Yellow ring just keeps spinning and everything inside melted overnight. Unplugged and plugged it back in, it took 8 hours to produce 20 (literally 20 pieces) nuggets of ice, made every noise in the book and then the yellow ring came back and the 20 pieces are now 6 pieces and those nuggets are holding on for dear life.
We loved this ice maker and the nugget ice and this feels like a breakup that we werent ready for. Products should hold up longer than 8 months, especially at this price point

This thing does not work, makes 2 cups of ice then goes into defrost mode and melts it all right away. Trouble shooting guide is worthless. This should be a simple plug and play machine.
