I upgraded to the xl after the plate coating wore out on my first optical smaller version I think the coating on this grill is better than the first one I had. I only hand wash them and not use the dishwasher and have not had any problems. I like the size and the temps are usualy close. Sometimes I have to pull items earlier than the light indicator says for my desired temp but that is not a big problem. I only wish it had a second set of flat plates that I could buy as an added option So I could use it more like a panini grill. That would be great

The automatic sensor appears to not work correct. We received a replacement unit several weeks ago and it worked fine with hamburgers but so far pork chops, sausage, and thick steaks have not performed automatically.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is our second one. The first malfunctioned and couldn’t be reset so they replaced it. Now this does a similar thing. Shuts off after I’ve put the food on to cook. I Stan next to until it says it is pre heated. Put the meat on so it doesn’t get too hot but then it shuts off. I will look for another model next time. We also have a smaller TFal Optigrill ta a second house and have never had an issue with that one, when it works it works well.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this a couple yrs ago & just upgraded to the XL now that I'm getting on a health kick. The original has been great for fish, chicken & steak. I understand the frustration of some other people about the manual mode & also if you have to use it again after the 1st time it's hard to understand temps. I purchased a good thermometer & would recommend this to get your temps perfect!!!

I have owned 2 of these over the years. I keep buying a new one after I wear out a set of grills which takes many hundreds of perfect steaks, etc. I should just buy replacement grill plates, but I can't live without my T Fal.
