Why Oh Why Do I Love Paris

Most of the reviews here are as repetitive as the build was. But I love Paris and I loved making this model of the Eiffel Tower. It doesn't look at all Lego-y but rather looks very Eiffel Tower-y. Many have said that the Lego model is a work of art. If so, it's only because the real tower is a work of art.
I've been to Paris 4 times and to the top of the tower 3 times. On the 4th occasion, I didn't have reservations and didn't want to wait in line so I satisfied myself with climbing the 300+ steps to the first level. Even from this lowest level, the views are amazing.
When I saw this while Christmas shopping, I knew I had to treat myself to an early Christmas present. I enjoyed everything about building it--- with the possible exception of the toll that it took on my 73-year old fingers. Out of an astounding 10,001 pieces, I encountered no missing parts although there was one piece that was mangled and had to be replaced by Lego (It took around 10 days to arrive but I was able to work around it.) As a retiree who seeks out projects to work on, I loved building this despite the repetitive nature of some of the tasks.
I'm considering adding lights but am waiting to read reviews (I haven't found any so far) to compare the various 3rd party offerings. I also am worried that all the wires used will impair the model's elegant beauty and will make it less easy to separate the tower into it's 5 component parts. I'd love to hear some feedback from anyone who has installed lights on their Eiffel Tower.
I put the completed tower on a 32" round pedestal table looking out from the 15th floor at the panoramic views of the New England city where I live. It evokes strong reactions from all who have seen it.
This was my first venture into Lego-land---and perhaps my last---but I am so glad I took the journey.

Missing parts!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] [Employee of lego-global] Nice kit but missing 11 parts so far and not finished! This is the 3rd expensive Lego set that I bought that is missing parts. Very frustrating.

Excellent Model - Not a play set

This set is all about something massive - like the real thing being built for the sake of making the the tallest structure at the time, the reason you need this set is to have because of its size. I found the build to be easy compared to titanic - but very repetitive - which I like because I usually have a couple of people building big sets with me. The arches are structurally dubious but amazingly seem to stay on quite well in spite of hanging upside down with little in the way of support. This is not a playset and unlike the Titanic this model will probably not withstand child play. But as a display piece - very cool!

Intense build, but impressive final product

It took me 6 days to build, but it's quite an impressive piece once done. I agree with a few of the other reviews that mention the arches in the base of the tower being a bit too delicate with their attachment points. If you can accept the piece count and understand it will take a long time to build, you will enjoy the build.

The Sky's Raining Bricks

I find that this is an amazing set, but was disappointed that detail bricks from the arch continued falling after multiple times of reassembling those areas correctly. I have never experienced this from Lego before and am slightly let down. I hope that I do not experience this again.

The Eiffel Tower was easily the most challenging build for me as I would consider myself to be an expert builder after about 11 years of building legos.When I say challenging I mean EXTREMELY challenging the shear repititiveness of this set drained me a ton while building it,but overall it was extremely fun to finish the stages and levels of the build.(Only buy if have tons of lego experience!!!)

Beautiful Set, Somewhat Tedious Build

Having completed this set, I can say it's absolutely gorgeous on display and has so many little intricate details. It's a joy to look at, but it does need a lo of space for display. As other people have said, the build is probably the most repetitive out of any set I've built thus far. I would recommend spreading out the build over the course of a couple of weeks if you do get this, but overall I think the end result is definitely worth it.

Missing Pieces

Overall had 2 missing pieces for the build, the first was in the bottom half and the second in the top half. And all the extra pieces that included none of them were the missing ones i needed. Also, for the second missing piece needed its not even in stock to get! Very disappointing for the price and build. Now have to wait more!
