very disappointed with this machine. what I did in 30 minutes with a gas mower takes me 2 days! with this machine, and its still not 100% done. I bought an extra battery and it is still very disappointing how weak the motor is. It shuts down and kills battery at the slightest hiccup

Hello turfted,

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the run time of this battery when used in this lawn mower.
It is important to adjust your mowing techniques to make the most out of the battery life but it goes without saying that that the harder the unit works, the quicker the battery drains.

Here are a few mowing tips to help achieve the optimal run time.

1) When cutting thick grass, reduce walking speed to allow for a more effective cut and a proper discharge of the clippings.

2) Only mow 1/3 of the total grass length at a time - no more. For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less of the total length of the grass. The average lawn should be approximately 1 1/2 to 2” (3.8 to 5 cm) long during cool months, and between 2" to 3 1/4" (5 cm to 8.3 cm) long during hot months.

3) Mow when the grass is dry. As this is an electric unit, mowing wet/damp grass is a safety issue. However, ensuring the grass is dry will also help the grass cut cleanly and discharge appropriately. Wet/damp grass carries more weight and will mostly stick to the blade/motor shaft and will not appropriately discharge or cut easily.

4) Make sure the battery is cool before use. When the battery will not be in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging.

We hope these tips will help! If not, we would be happy to investigate to see whether your run time would be considered average; please contact us directly through chatbot on www.greenworkstools.com that will direct you to a live agent or call us on Greenworks Pro toll-free helpline at 1-855-345-3934. We would like the opportunity to speak with you to see if we can find a solution. All we ask that you have access to the unit so that we can complete troubleshooting with you and gather necessary unit information.

Easy To Use

I bought this unit back in February and have used it for about 25 cuts so far. The set up was easy and the mower runs great. The battery charges quickly. The issue is with how clean, or not clean, the unit cuts. Not sure if it is the design of the deck, the blade or just not enough oomph but it leaves way too many blades uncut even when cutting at a snails pace and with a significant overlap. I thought that the 80 Volt would be powerful enough to lift all the grass for a nice clean cut but it does not.

Hello # A Cut Below,

Thank you for sharing your feedback! When the lawn is being cut uneven, this can indicate a few different things. The first being that the lawn itself is rough or uneven. However, if this is not the case then it is possible that the grass is too tall, or the cutting height is set too low for the type of grass. Try raising the cutting height and reduce walking speed in order to allow for a more effective cut and a proper discharge of the clippings. If you have tried these suggestions, try having a look underneath of the mower deck and ensure that there has been no damage to the motor shaft, fan, blade, blade washer/insulator or the bolt. If any of these parts have been damaged or thrown off balance this will result in an even cut and likely, a noticeable vibration while in use.

Love it, but...

Overall, the mower is great and I would never go back to a gas mower. Still, a couple of things bother me. The side chute clogs much too easily. In the real world you often mow when the grass is not real short or not real dry. The rear grass collection works well, but I'm old and I really don't like to manhandle the collection bag, plus where am I going to put all that grass? And, even more bothersome, the grass tends to spit out of the chute (when it's not clogged) in large clumps that are very unsightly. My old gas mower had a bigger chute and ejected the grass in a wider area that needed no raking to look OK. Why couldn't this chute be designed the same?
Another, perhaps minor, point: when you stop going forward and pull the mower backwards, which one does all the time, the self-propelling motor does not disengage instantly, but instead keeps the wheels locked for a short time, making it hard to immediately pull the machine backwards.
I could add many compliments about excellent design features: the ingenious storage position, the quiet engine, the powerful long-lasting battery, the surprising ease of mounting and dismounting the collection bag (if you use it).
Pros: Convenient, Cost-Saver, Quiet, Environmentally Safe, Effective

CHap mower at a high price. Mine came wiht loos bolts, it clunk, creeks,..... Its cutting ablity is low end,... Yes, very true. I find I have to go over areas twice! Grass is not tall. It doesnto cut well. My 12 year old Honda does a much better job at mulching plus NO CREEKS OR CLUNGS! As for the deck, old desgin style that does not cleanout well, low vacuum,.... it WILL rust out! Why not a compsite deck GW? Why such and old style deck? Just don't buy.
Pros: Quiet

Hello Joe09,

Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback as we are always looking for areas to improve!

The deck is forged with heavy-duty steel, for strength and durability. A stamped deck means that the deck has been stamped out of a single piece of steel versus a fabricated deck that has been welded together. Stamped decks often have a better airflow and are more flexible in their capabilities. We'd love to share some a tip to care for the deck, we do not recommend using water to clean the lawn mower but use a scraper to get rid of the grass, and then you can use a damp cloth to wipe off and loose pieces. Finish by wiping with a dry cloth and spraying lightly with a silicone spray or lawn mower deck spray.

At Greenworks we stand behind each product we manufacture. This lawn mower carries a 4-year warranty from the date of purchase.

Almost perfect

This is my 5th 80v tool (18” chainsaw, pole saw, weed eater, blower). It cuts great, has good speed, and runs smooth. It takes me more than one 2AH battery to do my yard (16 pallets of grass on about a quarter acre). Two things would make it perfect - add a phone holder, and look at a better way to release the rear wheels when you are under self propelled operation. You have to release the wheel drive lever 3-5’ before you either turn or pull the mower back so the wheel drive releases. The wheels will lock up if you don’t give it enough time/distance.

I’ve had this mower for a week now and I’ll never go back to a gas mower unless I have to due to property size. This mower is perfect for what I need. It cuts well, is light and super quiet.
The main reason I switched is because the toxic emissions from gas products. My two year old son loves being out with me near the tools so I did research and landed on this Greenworks for several factors:
Steel deck
Simple construction
Good reviews
Good price
The only trade offs are battery maintenance and battery charge but I’ll deal with those for the benefits this battery mower offers.
I enjoy every time I take it out.
Some of my favorite features are:
How quiet it is
The one lever height adjustment
How durable it feels
The classic look
All in all I’m super happy with this mower.
Pros: Convenient, Cost-Saver, Easy to Use, Quiet, Durable, Environmentally Safe, Effective, Powerful
