Another Winner

This 60v tool from Greenworks is a winner. It is powerful enough to cut through thick, tall grass without any resistance. It’s also a champ when it comes to routine lawn edging. Its versatility is enhanced, too, by the variable speeds of the trimmer. A light touch on the trigger produces a slower rotation of the cutting string, while a full depression results in an impressive, potent top speed. The beautiful thing about this design is that changing speeds can happen effortlessly on the fly, allowing one to adapt to variations in the current job without any stopping or restarting.
It’s worth noting that this device is heavier than some may be used to. I previously used a 40v tool from a rival company; the trimmer was lighter than this one, which, in truth, I prefer. But the extra weight is offset by an adjustable shoulder strap that reduces fatigue and pressure on one’s back.
Another thing to note is that this trimmer uses heavier line. The result is less breakage. I noticed this the first time I trimmed my lawn with the 60v trimmer and appreciated it immediately. The bump-advance of the line works as it should. All in all, this is a superior tool that I highly recommend.

High End Performance with a Battery

I got this to replace my GreenWorks 40V string trimmer, which I absolutely loved. The 60V brushless trimmer puts that beloved tool to shame. The two tools weigh about the same, but the 60V trimmer has great shoulder strap that helps to reduce fatigue. The dual line cuts through everything that it needs to. I used this in a rocky area of my yard that was overcome with weeds and grass. It absolutely destroyed the unwanted growth. The bump feed works flawlessly, feeding the line when needed. I've also used this to "mow" the small, overgrown patch of grass at my parent's house. The 16-inch cutting path is fantastic. This tool is quiet, powerful, and easy to use. It truly is professional power in an affordable battery-operated tool

The string feeder is the weakest link

The bump-and-go string feeder stopped working for me on my third use, and I have had to manually pull the string out each time, which is very annoying. Everything else about the tool is great. Light weight, battery can last up to an hour, and it has plenty of power.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

String Trimmers works on the principle that a line spun at high speed becomes stretched and taut due to centripetal acceleration. The tension in the line makes it stiff and the inertia of the line gives it the energy to cut. So basically it is like a spinning whip.
We recommend, checking the end of the line is fully attached to the spool by feeding it through the thread hole or guide designed for this purpose. The line should then be wound evenly around the spool in the direction of the arrow (pull the line to tension it as you are doing so). If the line is wound slackly, excess line will feed out of the spool when you bump the cutting head to release line and just end up getting snapped off by the knife on the guard of the trimmer. Neat winding helps to ensure that line feeds out ok and doesn't bind. You don't have to be overly fussy about this. Just make sure all the line isn't bunched up at one end of the spool or is very loosely wound around it.

Performs Well, Try this tip for winding string

I've owned this tool for about six months and it has worked great. The only problem I had, which I see other people having, is replacing the string. I could not get the string to stay in place, very aggravating. Today I checked the instructions again, and the instructions say to wind it clockwise, with the gear side facing you. However, the spool has arrows on it that say to wind it the other way. After winding the way the spool indicates, opposite what the manual says, it seemed to work ok; I say seemed, because I only had a little ways to go before finishing. I haven't owned it long enough to give it five stars.

Latest and greatest yard tool

I got this trimmer about a month ago. I've used it several times and I've had my neighbors and a commercial lawn care guy try it out. None of the people that used it had ever used a cordless trimmer before. All were favorably impressed. Here are the reasons why I really like this product. First, it trims grass every bit as good as any trimmer I've used. The cutting string is strong and doesn't have to be fed out often. Second, I like that you can set the string cutter to a smaller diameter (which is what I use) if you don't want the full 16" diameter cut. That saves energy. I trim both my lawn (over 1000 ft of trimming) and a half acre park in our subdivision at the same time and the battery has plenty of charge left when I finish. Third, you can set a switch to run the motor at a lower power setting (#1) if you are just trimming the edge of the lawn that you can't get with the mower. That also reduces the demand on the battery. If you need to trim tall grass or weeds you can set the switch to the #2 setting which adds more speed and power. I've found the lower power setting adequate for most of my trimming. Fourth, I like the brushless motor mounted above the cutter head. They are longer lasting than brush type motors and you have better speed/power control. No sparks or brushes to wear out. Fifth, the battery re-charges within 30 minutes and can be used in Green Works 60 volt hedge trimmer, leaf blower and chainsaw. Finally, this unit is really quiet compared to a gas engine trimmers and obviously does not pollute the atmosphere. More and more States and communities are banning 2 cycle gas engine driven products. Only one person who used my trimmer thought it was a little heavy, although the others that tried it out thought it was much lighter than their gas powered trimmers. I did see a support belt kit available that shifts most of the weight to the shoulder from the arm. I plan to add the other 60 volt products to my lawn and garden tools in time.

Love this trimmer!

I have used this trimmer the entire summer. With all the rains we have had mowing and trimming has been a six time a month task. This trimmer always works perfectly, and I can complete my entire one acre yard with one charge. I am so thrilled to grab the string trimmer, squeeze the activation trigger and off I go. Will never miss mixing gas and oil, the exhaust smell and the spills that come from my older gas trimmer. Thank you for a great line of products...I will have many!

I highly recommend this tool. As a new homeowner I have been in the market for yard tools. Tried one of these battery powered tools. Awesome choice. It had great solid power to be able to edge my driveway and hit the rest of the yard on one battery. I bet it will save money in the long run and seems like less maintenance and is probably good for the environment(battery waste, but less gas). I am impressed by the amount of power that these battery operated tools can produce and I think they put out just as much power as gas tools that I have used.
