Downloaded the app no problem. Had an issue accepting the terms (the button was partially offscreen). But otherwise, works great. Paired no problem. Perhaps the 1 star reviewers were using Android.
People that gave this Garmin dash cam a 1 star have no idea how to actually use the camera properly and are focusing on the wrong things.
First of all, one of the most misunderstood aspects about the Garmin dash cam is that it does not record continuously and that you have to manually save a video if you get into a car accident - that is simply not the case at all. The camera continuously records 24/7 while you have the camera on. The video is broken up into 1-minute increments and is saved in the microSD card in the camera. If you ever want to review any footage you simply have to get a full-size micro SD card adapter and then insert it into your computer to view your driving history up to the limits of whatever MicroSD card you have. In my case, I got a bigger Samsung 64gb SD card that can keep track of almost a week's worth of driving history.
Yes you need Wi-Fi connection to view the footage in the Garmin App which I actually didn't have too much issues with compared to the other reviewers. The quality won't be the same as viewing it on the computer of course which is fine because using the app is really only meant for a quick reference.
The 1440p quality, the extremely small size of this dash cam and its very easy mounting process is why I got this camera. The user experience of the camera is great too because you can easily dismount the dash cam off the magnetic mount if you need to be and the mount is as unobtrusive as can be.
I was originally worried that the camera would have an always-on display which I preferred not to have but the camera screen can actually turn off by itself after a minute of driving which pretty much happens once you get your vehicle going down the road.
Overall, if you're looking for a high quality, easy-to-use dash cam that is both very compact and discreet and not distracting for you while driving, whilst having plenty of extra features like voice control or the safety alerts on the camera, you can't go wrong with the Garmin 57w.
I am using a samsung S6 20 Android so yes my phone is current. While the DASH CAM has many features, the WifFi is subpar even 10 feet from the router and the software is buggy. I have disabled all VPNs and any all antivirus software. In short unreliable uploads / video average but detail lacking. I have trouble shooting through the garmin web as well. Small in size - small in wifi capabilities.
This dashcam only records a single video file, which automatically overwrites when the memory is full (about an hour for the included 16GB card). It does not/will not create separate clips when the car is moving (i.e. a clip of each drive...totally defeating the reason of having a GPS unit). Their app is garbage and will not connect to the device.
I called into to Garmin support assuming something was wrong with my unit, and they advised that this is the way the device is supposed to work. To troubleshoot the app connection issue, they wanted me to provide a list of every app on my phone before they would help troubleshoot the connection problem.
This is a perfect device if you want an hour long clip of your garage door, and no videos of anything meaningful.
garmin drive app is completely unusable, unable to connect to wifi issues, unable to connect to camera issues, live view takes forever to connect and fails most of the time, cannot find dash cam via bluetooth as its "not in range", iOS app is not a modern looking app at all, force closing garmin drive app actually restarted my iPhone 11 pro max as well, thank god it wasn't bricked
i need a dash cam that is ready to go out of the box and doesn't require me to sit around trying to resolve errors and glitches
who knows might have been a good dash cam but given the horrible app experience, that was enough for me to return the device
