Wonder if there is a current batch of faulty waffle makers

Researched waffle makers and found nothing but praise for GQ502D51 so ordered one 1/10/18, finally received it 1/19/18 (weather delay), and first used it 1/24. So disappointed when opened it when signaled done and found tops of waffles not at all browned and bottoms lightly browned, with everything just a limp mass; then second one was same way (control set on 4 and then on 5). After that found most recent two reviews here (1/14 and 1/15/18) which describe identical experiences to that I had. Called Krups which said because problem occurred within first 30 days of ownership it is sending me prepaid return label and will send replacement waffle maker. Surely hope replacement machine does not experience same problem, for theoretically the machine is perfect and apparently in all but these recent three instances is great in actual performance (all reviews from all sources). Appreciate Krups acting to replace waffle maker and will review replacement machine. Not recommend and these ratings apply to this particular machine. Hope can recommend and 5 star rate the replacement one.
Have received from Krups replacement waffle maker for unit reviewed by me on 1/27/18. Apparently first unit was faulty, for this unit, tho not quite perfect, is so, so much better than first unit. Tops of waffles are still not quite as brown as bottoms, but definitely acceptable, and entire waffle is nicely formed and delicious rather than floppy mass which waffles were from first unit. Appreciate Krups providing return label and soon sending replacement unit which is totally satisfactory.
We've used it twice now, and both times the waffles were cooked consistently through. The first time we used the recipe provided in the Krups manual, and the waffles were bland and flavorless. The second time we used the recipe that came with the Cuisinart waffle maker that this replaced. Much better outcome - the waffles browned better and were crisper and more flavorful. YMMV.
Bought this unit a little over a week ago and have used to make 7 waffles. The unit itself is nice. The (2) negatives I had read were the electrical cord is short and the temperature knob was hard to turn. The electrical cord is approximately 16 1/2" and worked fine for me. The knob turned easy but it is small and the mark is hard to see - compared to rest of the unit it is of lower quality.
today we tried ours for the first time....we seasoned it like it said....set it for #3 cause we believed that would be the best for our liking...heated it till ready light came on....poured in to fill the four spots...closed the lid and hoped for the best....well it dinged...i opened it and found four PERFECT waffles that popped right out....and were truly delicious. My only complaint is that the knob is hard to see the setting bar so im gonna use white nail polish to make it easier to see....I AM SO GLAD WE CHOSE THE KRUPS OVER OUR OTHER CHOICES AND SO WILL YOU.
We purchased this maker after reading extensive reviews and we're glad we chose this one. The plates are easy to remove, clean and replace (make sure to snap down until you hear a click), and are handily labeled upper and lower so there is no issue with placing them on the wrong side. The top opens and closes easily using the handle and it's easy to hear the click when locking the lid into place to start cooking (the waffles won't cook properly if the lid is not locked into position). We love the alarm feature that tells you when the waffles are done. This is the first waffle maker we've had that allows us to choose the cooking time and therefore allows us to make crispy waffles every time, unlike our old waffle maker that produced soft, flimsy waffles no matter how long they baked (it had no adjustable temperature).
