Aces its mission

The Hard Floor Expert was designed for one job: cleaning hard floors. Once you realize that, you can appreciate how well it works. My house is about 95/5 hard/carpet, so the Hard Floor Expert was a natural choice. And on the hard floors, it shines. The hard-floor head (or foot, as Bissell likes to call it) has brushes, but they're small and soft so they won't hurt a hardwood floor's delicate finish. It's compact and maneuverable so it can squeeze around my pedestal sink. Unfortunately you can't lower the wand to go flat, so it's easy to tilt up too high and lose suction going under beds or other furniture. Carpets are where most complaints seem to come in. This vacuum is not designed for carpet any thicker than maybe berber. If you have a room or two full of cut-pile StainMaster, the vacuum you need has a motorized head, like a SmartClean or Powergroom. The Hard Floor Expert does fine on my carpet tiles and stair mats, and either head works with them because they are, indeed, very thin. To echo others, the wheels do not roll easily. The weight and shape of this vacuum make it prone to rear up and even fall over if you get too far ahead of it. There's no place to put one head while you're using the other, but the location of the brush attachments is just right. One odd thing: my manual came with the first 4 pages of the English half in French, and vice-versa. The vacuum itself seems better put together, and here's hoping it stays that way. It's a nice little machine that does its job well.

Bulky, heavy and tips over constantly

The only thing this vacuum has going for it is that is does have good suction, for now. I've only used it twice. I have a bad back and the suction is so good my back is sore after pushing this vacuum along. I have to unplug after every room because the cord isn't long enough, the canister is constantly tipping over, the head doesn't swivel or lay down straight when you try to reach under areas likes beds and shelves. So I find I'm constantly picking it up to turn it in the direction I want to go. It feels big and bulky in my hand and is heavy to lug around. I'm sorry that I spent this kind of money and will have to use this vacuum until it dies. My first Bissell and will definitely be my last.

No, I would not buy this again.

I vacuum our hard floors weekly and struggle with this machine every time. It won't move easily when you pull it and often tips over on its side. I have to clean the wheels and floor attachment every time so the vacuum will move more easily when I pull it. It makes loud noises if the filter needs to be cleaned....which is almost each time it is used.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Strong vacuum with brittle parts

Use this vacuum almost every other day. Great suction and picks up everything off the hard wood floors. Too bad little pieces of the vacuum keep breaking off. Got this at the beginning of December. Writing the review at the end of January. Less than two full months of use and disappointed to see it falling apart. Needed a hard floor vacuum with better reach to go with my 11yo stand Bissell but not sure it will last as long.

Best purchase I have made for oak floors

I have used this product only 2 days, but it is the best vacuum I have ever purchased! It's lightweight, easy to handle, and does the best job on my hardwood floors of any vacuum I have used. I am 6' tall and was afraid that the hose and wand would be too short, but they are not. The handle is a big plus; I have a disability that affects my hands, so I needed something easy to hold. The vacuum does the trick for me in every way. It's remarkably quiet and will not drown out the TV. Doesn't scare the pets either!

Really impressed with the suction power on bare floors. The concept of the turbine brush makes sense, although the head must be kept flat with the floor for the brush to spin. One suggestion would be to have the attachment holder as part of the base unit and not clip to the hand-held handle; the attachment holder gets in the way when only using the handle.
