I have found that bissel brand of vacuum hold up durability compared to shark brand. This particular bissel vacuum does excellent sucking up sand , hair. I would recommend this vacuum

Compared to an upright, it is light weight because the bulk of the vacuum rolls behind you. I love the light weight. It's also a lot more quiet than my upright. And it has great suction!

Does not work on low-pile rugs at all. Like the portability of the vacuum-very light and like that it was bag less-easy to empty and you can see when it is full.
