Better than my Craftsman

I bought this last year to replace my Craftsman LT1000 gas powered tractor. I was hoping the Greenworks would be close to comparable to the Craftsman. It has far exceeded my expectations. I mow roughly a half acre of hilly yard and still have 25% battery left when using 6 batteries. It cuts as good as the Craftsman and the variable speed drive is way better than the fixed speeds of the Craftsman. Love not having to buy gas or change the oil.
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use, Quiet, Environmentally Safe, Powerful
Purchased my mower last fall, and I love it. Mower is quiet and has plenty of power. Blades seem to spin fast enough for a clean cut, and I'm thrilled with the speed I can cut with. While I love to mow, this thing has been super handy for hauling and moving things around. It does an excellent job pulling my lawn trailer. Also regularly pull around tree branches or yard debris. I love it and recommend it to everyone.
Pros: Cost-Saver, Easy to Use, Quiet, Durable, Powerful
My first zero turn and first battery mower. My lot is about .75 acre and hilly so I have to be a bit careful on the slopes. It takes about an hour to mow front, side and back, and I usually have about 30-40% charge left. Compared to my ICE tractors, it is much more comfortable with good leg room. Steering is quite different from the steering wheel to which I am accustomed. I find the levers to be much less tiring, though it took a few minutes to learn how to avoid jerking. There is no suspension, so the ride can get a bit bumpy on irregular terrain. Putting an adjustable suspension on the seat might make for an easier ride. As others have said, it would be nice to be able to charge the batteries while they remain in in the mower. I appreciate the flexibility of being able to remove the batteries, but having the option to recharge them in the mower would be a plus. I still use ear protection when the mower deck is on, but the noise level definitely is lower than with a gas mower. And when the deck is off, I can glide quietly around the yard on the mower. Hitch points on the front and rear are handy for pulling a cart or moving things around the lot. I like the rear cargo hold; again, a lot of flexibility. I strapped a battery operated sprayer in there and cruised around my yard zapping weeds. On slopes, sometimes the left drive wheel (rear) loses traction. I've learned how to recover, but it can be a bother. Offsetting that inconvenience is the ability to pivot direction much faster than a regular tractor. I finish my lot in about 15 minutes less time while going a the same or slower pace as with my old tractor. Overall, I am very well pleased with the CrossoverZ. I used to see mowing as a necessary drudge, but now I look forward to getting on the Greenworks to cut the grass.
Short Review: Yes...I would gladly buy this again. Pros: *85db (vs 95db for JD gas version)...sound level at the drivers seat (moving with blades on). Virtually silent when moving with blades off *Mows/mulches (1/2 acre) with 4 batteries (1 of 3 battery lights on at completion, mower gauge shows 40% remaining) *Mowing is much cooler than my previous gas tractor (no heat radiating from "engine") *Faster mow time of 42 minutes (vs 55 minutes with gas). I believe this is from using the foot pedal vs CC...or a specific speed setting. Thus, you can drive fast over low areas & quickly slow down over high-grass areas *Turning Radius is significantly better (vs previous JD) *If you have a parked camper van with 400W of solar (+inverter)...you can mow for free by charging the batteries in the van :) *Mower is extremely fun to drive...I'm not yet tired of mowing (vs a gas version) Cons: * No owners manual included...you have to print +44pages from the GW website. * Bumpier ride than my previous (JD) mower...added a 2" thick piece of foam to seat & lowered tire pressure slightly * Steering works well...but rattles and has a little play in it. * No local repair/service facility in my area...this is a big one if something goes wrong. * Need to use air hose to clean it off (vs. water)
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use, Quiet, Environmentally Safe, Effective
The mower cuts well, but we only have a 1/4 acre, and the batteries lose 50% of their charge. We keep the grass low and mow 2 to 3 times weekly so it's not thick.
Pros: Convenient
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello Boise mower man,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing shorter than normal runtime.
For best results users should:
1) Mow when the grass is dry.
2) Mow in the morning or late afternoon to reduce the heat stress on the newly cut grass.
3) Alternate mowing patterns each time you mow. As grass develops a grain based on your cutting direction it will lean towards the direction of your mowing path. Changing the pattern allows better vertical growth and helps to keep the cut neater.
4) Consider mulching. To mulch, remove the bag and insert the mulch plug into the rear of the unit. This will leave the clippings on the lawn allowing the nutrients and nitrogen contained within them to return to the soil and allow the remaining grass to recycle them (always discharge the mulch towards a previously cut area to prevent your mower from bogging down).
5) Always keep in mind what conditions your variety of grass prefers. If your grass prefers cooler climates, reduce the frequency with which you mow and increase the cutting height of your mower during hot seasons to compensate for the reduced growth rate these varieties may experience in this type of weather.
6) Make sure the battery is cool before use. When the battery will not be in use, we suggest storing it indoors, in a cool dry area - away from direct sunlight. Leave the charger unplugged and the battery disconnected from the charger unless it needs charging.
Lastly it is worth noting, lawn mower that provides more than one battery ports; it is recommend using all batteries for optimal runtime. This unit requires all six (6) batteries for optimal runtimes.
We hope these tips will help! If not, we would be happy to investigate to see whether your run time would be considered average, please contact Greenworks Solution Service Team at 1-877-481-6087. All we ask that you have access to the unit so that we can complete troubleshooting with you and gather necessary unit information.
I purchased this PRO 80V 42" CROSSOVERZ Zero Turn Lawn Mower about two months ago. So far, it's been performing up to or above my expectation. It's hard to tell it's on after starting the mower. It's fairly quiet even with the slow blade speed chosen. However, it gets a little noisier when engaging the high blade speed. In either case, it's much quieter than my old gas engine riding mower. The battery set (6 at a time) lasts mowing my 1/2-acre yard twice at a minimum before having to use my other backup set (came extra with the purchase - Total of 12-80V). I'm very happy with this purchase and looking forward to investing in battery powered tools going forward.

Runs great, cuts great, but hard to put in reverse even with the seat all the way back. I have to push the handles hard into my chest to go in reverse.
This is a great mower. Plenty of power. I can get 2 mows in between charges. My yards about 1/2 an acre and hilly. The the blades not engaged it flys around like a go cart. Very happy with the purchase.
Pros: Easy to Use, Quiet, Effective, Powerful
I would recommend this to a friend!
