Like the warm colour temperature and fine intensity control, also the gradual increase and decrease. Works as advertised, with some great unanticipated features.
Set light/sound alarm as per instructions, both symbols displayed. Set fall asleep for whatever time and before time is over the clock goes from normal gradual dim to dim to off in 1 sec, and the light alarm symbol goes off. And I’m late for work, again. The sound alarm can be tuned on/off, but sunrise alarm is hit/miss. Absolutely no trouble shooting available about this. I assume this clock is defective and will be returning it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Personnellement, je trouve que les touches des différentes fonctionnalités ne sont pas mis en évidence; recherches des touches pour les différentes fonctions.
I'm very sensitive to nighttime light and I love to use the super low, warm light to read by at night, which doesn't keep me awake. It also makes it much easier to get out of bed in the morning as the light gradually comes on, and I wake up more naturally at some point during the time that the light comes on. It's such a more pleasant way to start the day than to a loud alarm in the dark! I'm looking at this to maybe buy a second one so that my husband and I can have one on each side of the bed.
As someone who is NOT a morning person, I loved this alarm. It was one of the best purchases I've ever made. About 2.5 years into having it and 6 months after the warranty expired, it began malfunctioning catastrophically. It would strobe, turn off, stay on, and not respond to buttons. Unplugging it would help for a few mornings but it would always return. Considering most LEDs like the ones used in this light are rated for 50,000 hours, 2.5 years of life is very disappointing. A $30 alarm from the internet, ok. But for something $100-200 I expect more out of it. It seems I'm not the only one to have this problem with this model. I did love it and customer service gave me a discount voucher for a newer model so I won't abandon Philips yet, but I'm skeptical to say the least

[Employee of philipsglobal] Bought for my son. It worked well for a few weeks and then we lost power during a thunderstorm and it hasn't worked since. The light works but I cannot reset the clock, none of the buttons do anything.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is my second unit of the Philips HF3520 Wake-up light. I did not purchase this second unit because I loved the first one so much I just had to give it as a gift or add it to another bedroom -- I got it because the first one died after 5 years of ownership. Therein lies one issue that you either get comfortable with or search for something else: this clock/light cannot be repaired -- once it goes, it goes. There is no possible means to replace the light and the product itself can be very "quirky". It is not exactly a feat of engineering perfection: when it works, it is a stellar sunrise wake-up clock -- but it doesn't always work and the controls can be incredibly annoying. Further, the possibility of the light first going "haywire" and then eventually dying is not insignificant. If you have that set of expectations and understanding, you will enjoy the light (when and while it works and once you have mastered the controls).
