Finally, after 50 years of barbequing all over the world (USAF-retired), my wife said it was about time I owned an up-scale grill. After much research online and visiting brick & mortar I chose the Prestige Pro 500. A little downsizing from previous grill since it's mostly myself and my wife of 50 years for now. I received it boxed and put it together on my own. I had no issues whatsoever with the non-scripted instructions since I have had the wonderful opportunity of working with the Marines during my service and fully understand the need for pictured assembly instructions. This is a well thought out and solidly built grill. The only issue was the electrical wires that hung down below the burner control panel. This caused the installation of the drip pan to be difficult. I have made some modifications to this with some small zip ties to keep the wires up and also not interfering with the operation of the burner controls.
This is a very nice bbq. It seems to cook very evenly. The stainless parts of the bbq are a high quality, non magnetic steel (probably 304 grade) That should be mentioned in the brochures. For the price I think the main cart assembly should also be a good quality stainless instead of painted steel, especially the base. The manual is all pictures, no explanations in any language. It is also small and difficult to follow. The box it comes in is extra heavy, 2 person job to carry, with tons of cardboard and plastic packaging inside. The gas knobs glow red individually when they are on and also the knobs have different colours available when off of you want. I had problems with a couple wire connections as they were too short to easily plug in. One of them I had to pull on the wiring more than I wanted to for the side burner. That wire should be a foot longer and clip into some clips under the side burner instead of just hanging loosely across under the burner grease tray. The other wire I had short went to the centre "Napolean" light and sensor. I had to cut a slit into the insulation by the left side in order to get just enough wire to plug it in. It has 2 pairs of wires with 1 set going up into the left side panel and the other set which were the problem. Also in the storage area underneath, the shelves and accessory hooks are not solidly clipped in, but just sitting in loosely. I also have trouble with the clip that guides the gas line down the right side. It won't push into the hole evenly to snap into position. Either the base of the clip is too long or the hole is slightly too close to the inside frame. It half works on an angle. These are problems I had and not necessarily will other bbqs have similar ones. At least I got it together and it works beautifully.
I'm in love with this grill. Almost everything is perfect.
My only complaint is the motor for the rotisserie protrudes away from the side so far that it must be removed in order to open the door to the right hand side for access to the cutting board and storage bin. And once removed there is no convenient location to store it out of the way. A bracket on the back of the unit would be perfect for keeping it safely out of the way when not in use. Also wish there was a light inside the lower cabinet.
Well built grill and awesome warranty. I have owned and cooked on Napoleon grills for the past 15 years. Never lets me down. My new Pro 500 replaces a Prestige 500 that is 15 years old and still lights first try every time. I would recommend Napoleon grills to anyone wanting a quality grill that is very dependable.
Reverse seared a couple of filet mignons with indirect heat and finished them off on the side sear burner. Perfectly medium rare with no "bullseyeing".
I've only just gotten the grill, but we are already enjoying cooking on it from the first day. We've done steaks, rotisserie chicken, brats, hamburgers, hotdogs, and even rotisserie French fries. It's a well built grill, heavy and solid and we look forward to many years of enjoyment from this grill.
