I bought this speaker today. It's really great, more portable than JBL xtream and sound for me better charge 3, sometimes like JBL xtream 2. I'd like this speaker very much.
Awesome product and a nice upgrade to The charge 3 however the charge 4 has one front facing speaker that sounds phenomenal but it would have sounded more balanced with the speaker in the center vs one side. If the new charge can have that placement that would make that the perfect personal speaker.
I got both the Charge 3 and 4. The Charge 4 is a significant down grade in sound quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The JBL Charge 4 is pretty impressive for such a small bluetooth speaker. Amazingly it only uses a single 50mm x 90mm driver that produces 30W of power. The single driver is accompanied by two passive bass radiators that assist to produce bass notes as low as 60hz. At first you may think why would JBL take the approach of using a single driver rather than dual divers? Well I can assure you that the single driver inside the Charge 4 is a high quality driver that produces excellent sound. The whole package just works and sounds great. I compared both the Charge 4 with its predecessor for hours and hours and this is my conclusion. The previous generation is a great sounding speaker however the Charge 4 sounds even better. Now you may think, how can a mono speaker outperform a stereo speaker? It's simple, the drivers in most small bluetooth speakers are so close to each other that is difficult for you to hear the stereo separation to begin with. To really hear stereo separation from a stereo speaker the left and right channels need to be further apart from each other. I found that the best listening position is vertically with the J from the JBL logo towards the bottom. The JBL Charge 4 sound is well balanced with clear vocals, great treble and great bass. The mid-range frequencies are pushed forward and crystal clear. The Charge 4 is powered by a 27Wh battery rated at 7,800mah and is rated at 20 hours play time between charges. The JBL Connect+ allows you to pair additional JBL speakers with the same feature flawlessly. This is a great feature for syncing several speakers throughout a party area. Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity is good with long range and the speaker is IPX7 water proof just in case you need to submerge it in water. The materials and build quality is excellent as usual. The charging port has now been upgraded to USB C and the speaker can charge your phone via a standard USB A connector. All in all the JBL Charge 4 is an excellent all around bluetooth speaker with improved sound quality over its predecessor.
Pros: Well balanced sound with clear vocals No distortion at maximum volume Battery life IPX7 water proof USB C charging port
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm a big JBL fan, and the Charge 4 didn't fail to live up to expectations. Favorite 5 5 features listed below: 1) Sound quality is great. I wasn't thrilled about the single driver (sound only comes out of the front of the speaker and off center), but everything still sounds loud and clear despite it. 2) IPX7 waterproofing makes this speaker great for outdoor fun or singing along to in the shower. 3) The JBL Connect feature is actually pretty cool! I have a JBL Flip 4 (included in pictures for size comparison) so I haven't been able to do stereo mode since you can apparently only do that with 2 of the same model speaker, but even just being able to extend the audio to multiple speakers is fun and great for parties. 4) The charging feature is handy. Haven't used it a ton, but it's nice to have as a backup when you don't have any outlets around (battery life overall for the speaker is great so sparing some charge for your phone shouldn't be an issue). 5) I love that this speaker uses a USB-C connection to charge, very forward-thinking of JBL, wish more companies were moving to this standard faster. Overall no complaints aside from the single driver thing, and I've found that it's not that big of a deal. I've paid more money for worse speakers in the past.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not only does the Charge 4 offer incredibly good, bassy sound but has multiple quality of life improvements that put it far and above other portable speakers I've used. The switch to USB-C has been an incredibly welcome one as it's superior to the standard mini-USB cables that so many others are still using. Likewise the ability to have your phone charging off of the speaker while playing music allowing for you to enjoy your music for longer was very useful. Overall the Charge 4 is a welcome improvement over previous iterations and leaves other portable speakers in the dust.
