I’ve decided to give EDC fixed blades a try. I usually carry smaller folding knives or razors that clip onto my front pocket.
I purchased two small SOG knives to try out and I find this blade to be the more attractive knife of the two. As advertised, it would be a great neck knife, but for a month now I’ve been front carrying it mounted sideways along my waste-band under my shirt.
It was plenty sharp out of the box, I haven’t sharpened it yet and it’s been keeping its edge cutting boxes and things. I’m not shaving arm hairs or anything, but have cut myself a couple of times.
I hate to knock it down a star on the review for a weakness solely about its case, but my rating is for a total purchase. A fixed blade knife without its sheath is less useful.
The metal belt clip slides down over my 1 1/2” belt pretty easily and would fit a wider belt as well, but it’s metal was not springy enough to keep its shape. With no abuse from me (I swear), the belt clip spread open just up enough by the second day, that it doesn’t squeeze the belt secure enough. The knife and case managed to slide upwards enough and fall off my belt a time or two while carrying a box or doing some activity. I used some 550 cord to creatively turn the metal slide-on clip into a loop so I no longer fear losing this awesome looking heavyweight knife.
The other small SOG knife (Instinct Mini) has a much better shaped belt clip that really grabs my belt, but I prefer this knife and wish the clip for this was the as good as that one.
The black case itself does a fine job holding onto the knife securely and it snaps in. It’s not falling out at all, even mounted sideways as I have it. When pulling the knife out, I can do it one handed by putting just the right amount of thumb pressure on the case as I pull on the handle.
If you have a better third party belt-clip system you could change to, don’t let me scare you away from a Bad A$$ looking EDC. The name, Snarl is perfect.

The knife is good but the sheath not so much. The retention belt clip doesn’t hold the knife in place. Slides along the belt making useless to carry.
