Solid Hub

Last year, I purchased a USB-C hub for my M1 Macbook Pro. It did the job fairly well, but I wasn't satisfied with the build quality. The shell / casing was pretty flimsy, and it wasn't the most solid connection to the two USB-C ports on the side - more simply put, it drooped a bit. I don't walk around with my laptop a lot, but I was always a bit nervous about the connection. A couple of weeks ago, I saw an ad for the HyperDrive hub, and decided to give it a try. The first improvement is the casing. It's much more solidly built and I have more confidence in its durability. Second, the hub comes with two attachment bars, one for the MacBook Air/Pro 2016-2020, and another for the 2021 MacBook Pro. The attachment bar is magnetized, and is a snug fit to my M1. I may not need all the adaptor types, but they don't get in the way, and who knows if I'll need them in the future. As of now, I have zero regrets on purchasing what I'd call a confidence-building hub upgrade.
Connection was terrible. If you slightly touched the adapter while it was connected, then everything would disconnect. Ultimately, destroyed my MacBook Pro, and gave me software issues because it disconnected so many times. Would not recommend to my worst enemies.
I got this from the Indiegogo campaign, to replace the standard Apple dongle. As far as the functionality of the device is concerned, it is as advertised. Having said that, I see great issues when using it on a macbook that is on a riser AND has a shell fitted. Any cables that come out are naturally not flat, since the laptop is on the riser. Their weight, combined with the fact that the Hyperdrive does not fit snuggly over the case, means that the Hyperdrive is getting pulled downwards, which cannot be a good thing long term for the connectors. Add an RJ45 cable which is a lot less flexible and things start getting a lot more complicated.
I get one of these for every member of my team to use with their company issued mac laptop. It’s a perfect solution for easily connecting external monitors and accessories. Highly recommend.
I’ve had this product for a year now and am pretty dissatisfied with it. 1st it’s very flimsy and doesn’t securely fit into my MacBook Pro 13in (never has but I got it as a gift so I kept it because it worked at first) and 2nd it disconnects from my laptop at the slightest movements and lastly it no longer works anymore after a year of light use of this product and I think it’s because of how flimsy it sits into the computers ports (I don’t have a case on my on my Mac either). I’m looking to try the Belkin version of this item in hopes I have better long term results with the product keeping its usable quality over time.
This hub really solved my problem of having to carry around multiple dongles! It attaches security to my 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch and it has been very helpful to use when I have it docked!
It just works as promised. The plastic adapter is really not necessary and impacts the flexibility so I've just removed it but the connection is not flush. Other than that, it's great.
