very nice built, easy to carry, only problem that the usb c output does not charge my MacBook pro 15”, plugged but nothing happens, original charger works, and also it works with other less demanding usb c devices. if that would have work, i could leave my original apple charger at home and carry less. that was a disappointing point. besides that, all works fine and device is indeed usable.
I love my HyperDrive 8-in-1. It has the ports that I need (including an Ethernet port) and only using one USB port on my MacBook Pro. I never take my computer anywhere without it. Small, light-weight and durable. A great product.
• The device gets very hot even when only Ethernet cable is attached to it. • Provides only 50W of power, not enough for MacBook Pro 15", which has an 87W charger. I wish it was specified in the description. • Can't charge an iPad through USB even with MacBook charger attached.
All the ports for a 2015 MacBook Pro and then some!

I’m trying to assume positive intent with what Apple has in mind by having 4 usb-C ports in their new MacBook Pros and forsaking all others so that you have to have dongles up the yin yang for your productive work! Not happy about that. That said Sanho Corp. took care of the issue brilliantly with their new Hyper hubs.
I got the HyperDrive SLIM 8-in-1 USB-C Hub, giving me all the ports from my previous MacBook Pro and a bit more. When streaming and downloading data it’s good to have a hard wired net connection. The flip-open gigabit Ethernet port is genius offering that extra port in the hub that the previous model Mac did not have while keeping its slim form factor. It’s also good having the extra micro SD port for use of an SD card from a GoPro for example while still having the option of the standard sized SD port.
I have two gripes, however. The first is the mini display port. While good for videographers it would have been great if it were a Thunderbolt port for more versatility. The second is that the two usb-2 3.0 ports don’t support an Apple SuperDrive. I spoke with customer support prior to my purchase who explained that the Apple SuperDrive has an ID chipset which is only compatible with Apple proprietary ports and adapters. Not any fault on the part of Sanho Corp, just frustrating again that Apple have your hands tied. I was assured, however, that you can use other third party BluRay/DVD/CD drives if needed.
One other thing to point out, which is expected is that the hub can get a bit warm when used to charge your Mac, playing video to an external display or if all ports are used simultaneously. Just be aware of that. I’ve not gone as far as checking data transfer rates for external drives, so if that’s something to question check out such stress tests on YouTube.
Overall the HyperDrive SLIM 8-in-1 USB-C Hub is a sleek, slim and very versatile hub to solve most if not all of your dongle frustrations. Portable enough to carry in your pocket, reliably works well and doesn’t compromise the use of the other usb-c ports of your MacBook Pro.
