Good Mesh Seat & Mesh Back Task Chair

Mesh chairs are the knock-off of the famous Herman Miller Aeron Chair which invented the functionality style & Skeleon frame construction -- problem is that it original sold for about $1 000 and now with imitators dealers advertise it for about $600. Why mesh ? It allows air to ciculate around the body forms around different body shapes and turns out the whole thing could be made in plastics & recycleables (Herman Miller base is metal aluminum I think and the build quality is far greater than the $100-$200 chairs you looking at). OK let's get to the Hyken: (1) One of few mesh chairs that has a mesh seat and mesh back. At a distance you can see the frame skeleton which some people would descibe as "light" while others see as cheap design - - it's actually well designed. A sign of quality is the lumbar support bar; cheaper mesh back chairs do not have a lumbar bar. This seat also has a front pad to support legs just above the knee joint. (2) Whether you feel comfortable or very comfortable depends on some of the adjustments -- is the seat back too close or far (the steel bracket has about 1" travel but you have 3 mounting screws to contend with). The other is seat tilt which I describe as how the seat is paralle to the floor -- mine seeem to angle slightly forward; in a car seats are angle back slightly so you're not leaning forward. Some people don't like the neck rest and I think it's a matter of how tall you are; if it doesn't work for you remove it (2 screws). Overall you can find a comfortable position but if you're sharing it with another person of a different height then one of 1 may not find it overly comfortable. It is rated for up to 225 lbs & 4-5 hours of sitting. (3) Assembly - about 30 minutes. Wasn't difficult but do it slowly and I recommend you hand start all screws before using the Allen wrench to avoid stripping threads. The hardware is not finished to high standards so you may have to patient in hand starting each screw. Screws are individually packaged according to the steps so assembly is idiot proof but pay attention to the stickers showing "front" so you don't re-do some screwing. (4) Build quality -- fair-to-good. The Herman Miller for $600-$900 has excellent finish that you are not getting in this $200 chair. So finish is not as smooth as HM Aeron (I sit on one at work) and there are some plastic "strings" from the molding process. The base is hard composite plastic but the critical joints are all metal. The screws have a coating to prevent unthreading and many do not fit flat to the surface of the piece being attached. (5) The caster wheels are siad to work on carpet floors and the tag said to order wheels for wood floors (I have wood but expect Staples to charge $25 for the set that cost $5 to make). Chair is basic Balck but have silver trim on the base and arm rest -- silver trim detracts from the industrial look and being paint subject to wear off so it cost more not functional & unsightly in my opinion. I paid the "special purchase" price of $130 on line as a weekly special. The box had areas crushed or perforated but upon inspection no parts seem to be missing and no pieces appear broken or marred in UPS transit. Some people complained of transit damage. Your alternative is to order on line for pickup at a store but you'll burn $4 in gas but it may be available the same or next day (I ordered on Saturday night & arrived Wednesday 3 business days). Chair is recommended but I owned it less than 1 week.

Excellent chair

I have an employee who is small in stature so was struggling with an office chair that was too deep for her leg length. She went with me to Staples to "try out" some of their office chairs and she immediately loved this chair. She went on to try out all the other chairs... "just to be sure"....but later returned to this chair stating it was her favorite. The design features that won her over included a mesh backing which will help her stay cool (she works in a small confined space that gets very warm when all the lights are on...especially in the summer) it has a shorter seat which enables her feet to touch the floor it has a contoured back support design and the chair back is adjustable. We also appreciated that the head rest & arms are removable since we did not need either of those and a Staple's crew member put it together for us. It was also marked down $100 from list price that day so we were very satisfied customers with this purchase. I'd highly recommend it to anyone needing a comfortable moderately priced office chair.

I HAVE TRIED MANY OFFICE CHAIRS AFTER A WHILE DUE TO SITING FOR OVER 12 HOURS PER DAY DOING TAXES MY BACK HURTS SEVERLY I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY THIS NEW CHAIR SO I WENT TO THE LOCAL STORE IN CT AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES I DECIDED THAT THE VARIOUS FEATURES ESPECIALLY THE HEAD REST WOULD BE A GREAT IMPROVEMENT TO THE LONG HOURS I MUST USE IT. THE WEBBING THAT ALLOWS THE CHAIR TO BREATH REDUCES THE EXCESS HEAT IN WARM WEATHER AND SWEATING THAT YOU EXPERIENCE WITH A REGULAR CHAIR. ON ONE OCASSION I WAS TIRED AND ABLE TO LEAN BACK FOR A POWER NAP SIMILAR TO A RECLINER THAT WOULD NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR AN OFFICE.

THIS IS THE FIRST CHAIR I HAVE SAT IN FOR MINUTES TO HOURS & DO NOT HAVE PAIN FROM SITTING. THE WAY THE CHAIR DIPS IN THE BACK ON THE SEAT & THE MOVEABLE BACK IS KEY. GREAT CHAIR. I RECOMMEND THIS CHAIR IF ANYONE HAS LOWER BACK OR HIP PAIN

The chair is very comfortable although I wish the back tilt had an infinite adjustment rather than set notches. The head rest portion is a joke which I left off.
